<p>Finished the CommonApp. Way more painless than expected. Haven’t done any of the supplements yet, though. Yuck.</p>
<p>Just got back last night from a weekend family vacation up to Charlotte. Played laser tag, explored the art museums, watched the first Panthers game (we lost :(), sucked terribly at frisbee golf, and grabbed some legit Peruvian food. Quite a successful trip!</p>
<p>Now to get back to working on the common app…</p>
<p>So I’m thinking about essay topics again. Here’s what I’m considering because it’s combining what I’ve been through and what I want to be: </p>
<p>After my brother passed away, I became deeply depressed and gained a lot of weight. Because of said weight gain, I was teased mercilessly. The bullying led me to anorexia and both made me suicidal. </p>
<p>Eventually, I realized that I couldn’t do that to my family. I didn’t want her to go through what she did with my brother. Instead of dying to be with him, I decided to honor him and try really hard in school and go to college. (he passed away before he got a chance; he really wanted to). </p>
<p>At that point, I was still anorexic and at 90 lbs and 5’4, I still felt fat. It took passing out on a field trip to get me to realize I could die if I kept going. I went to counseling and eventually overcame it. That’s when I realized what I wanted to do in life. I wanted to help others overcome mental illnesses and eating disorders. </p>
<p>I could focus more on the (positive) results of what’s happened to me. I could make it into something that’s not a pity party. I could do a short paragraph of what I went through, and then focus more on what I want to do to help others and to honor my brother. I definitely wouldn’t make it into any kind of pity party or anything. From what I’ve read, when people write about death, where they mess up is turning it into a poor me type of essay and they only focus on said traumatic event.</p>

<p>I don’t know if you wanted critiques or not but I would change up your sentence structures a but. You have quite a bit of sentences that start with “I”. That’s what I would do. </p>
<p>On another note, the same guy in my class that brought up topics that were spoken about on CC again mentioned something that was talked about yesterday. I’ve been found. O.o</p>
<p>I know (another I, lol.) That’s not my essay, just my topic idea/overview.</p>

<p>Which would you guys do, dual enrollment Nutrition or dual enrollment Sociology? I like both, so, which would you choose? (and why? I need to decide by tomorrow)</p>
<p>Nutrition sounds neat-o. Stuff like that resonates with me more, though.</p>
<p>Sociology is just useless IMO. I’m assuming you’re talking about a general program rather than a degree though, you probably won’t get a job in that.</p>

Nutrition:
This course provides an in-depth view of digestion, absorption, the metabolic pathways of the nutrients and hormonal regulation of these pathways. Factors related to regulating energy needs, current government dietary guidelines, specific lifecycle needs and research-based standards for analyzing nutrient adequacy are examined. Concerns with food-borne illness and water contamination are also covered. </p>
<p>Sociology: Covers basic Sociological concepts and perspectives essential for understanding organized social life including emphasis on the sociological imagination, major theoretical perspectives, research methodology, culture, society, socialization, social interaction, social structure, social stratification, social institutions, demographics and social change. </p>
<p>Dual enrollment is free. You take college classes in high school and get it as weighted as AP classes. It’s really cool if you’re over on credits.</p>
<p>I personally find nutrition more interesting.</p>
<p>So…
This is a rather late entry, I must say. I discovered CC late junior year and only recent motivated to actually join. So… I’m trying to smooth myself into the mix as I see fit xD
Alas, AP’s and honors for me. My dream school is Columbia, but at this point it’s so far of a reach that I don’t see myself getting in. Business, economics, political science and what not are the likes of interests for me in terms of school. </p>
<p>In regards to the topic at hand: Sociology has always been more interesting to me.</p>
<p>I get to do both! I dropped my online class so now I have AP Lit, AP Gov, Calc (H), and my dual enrollment classes are: Anatomy, Sociology, and Nutrition. This year is going to be fun =) All of my in-school classes are from 9:15-12:15. My DE classes are Mondays 6:15-9, Tues and Thurs 4-5:15, and Wed 6:15-9. I’m so excited! =D</p>
