High School Class of 2014

@AbsoluteIy – Alright, that’s what I thought.

Sorry my itouch is… Misbehaving? It rarely actually works well -_- so my apologies. That 0 period thing sounds cool, I’ve never heard of it before. I go to an IB school which may have something to do with that. Does anyone have any idea how self study works? I don’t even know if it could be an option for me considering I’m doing the IB diploma route credit wise. My school hardly has any course offerings /:

Hmm, I was interested to self-study or anything possible just to be Valedictorian of my class. I wanted to get ahead or anything in possible. I know I am going to be the only Sophomore in my class tackling three sciences in one year. It’s pretty scary (intimidating) for me, but it’s those individuals tackling FULL Ap’s/honors that inspire me to go big. What do you think, is it a massive courseload?

@Absolutely: So for self-study, you just need to talk to your AP Coordinator by calling AP Services and finding the nearest one. They arrange for you to take the exam, collect the fees, and tell you what’s going on. Also, you should talk to your counselor and your favorite AP teacher. you need to register before March 1st if you want to take the exams the same year. Then, your coordinator tells you if the tests will be sent to your school or if you will have to go to the nearest school that offers that AP.

Collegeboard is a great resource for your questions

@evanh14: Im going Ivy all the way. I live in CT so of course I dream of Harvard and Yale (They aren’t actually in my dreams). But if I can get into the UConn Honors Program im happy

@Absolutely go for it! Can you drop something if it is too hard? I would kill to be able to take 3 sciences!!! There isn’t even that option at my school unfortunately. We have 2 mandatory flex periods where we are stuck in one of our other classes for essentially a free period… Huge waste of time. I wish I could just take another class -_- I’m jealous of you AP people);

@kzo3365 – I figured so. :stuck_out_tongue: I would love an Ivy, but I just don’t think I have that type of mentality. I’m not motivated to study/do much work until my grade is below an A.

@evanh14 story of my life… Except the only class I actually have to work for a high A in is math…

@jerevedeparis: Is that like a study hall?! I’d kill for that ! Getting work done early opens spots for EC’s & all ! (: Haha, yeah… people keep telling me I’m basically going to kill myself. But I’m just going to dive at it since I wouldn’t like to ask myself what if did take three sciences.

@evanh14: The way I work is I start off each quarter with insanely high A’s. Then I slack until they are all A-'s and then I bring them back up to 95’s. It works surprisingly well. As for the mentality, my parents are the first from my family to leave our country, so its their dream to see me and my sister go to college. Also, since Im from Asia, its practically a necessity that i become a doctor. Ive had this drilled in me for as long as I can remember. For some people, they might hate it, but I actually want to become a neurosurgeon.

@Absolutely it is basically study hall… But if you knew the people I’m stuck in there with… It’s not a good time at all… All of the teachers teach new material during it which they aren’t allowed to do because we are supposed to be able to go to any other teacher or to the library… And when they don’t teach I can’t focus on work because people are sooo loud.
@kzo good on you! I wish you luck with that!!! I’m sure you will make your parents proud. I’m technically first generation since I wasn’t born here… And I was adopted… My parents don’t really care too much about my grades until I get a B… And then it’s like the world is over… I do the same thing you do about starting the quarter with high A’s. Lol.

@jerevedeparis – Right now, my grades are all 95 or higher, and the only one I’ve done some actual studying for is biology. It’s pretty great. My math grades used to be a 104, but it’s fallen to a 99. :(

@kzo3365 – Ah, okay. That sounds like a good plan. I may adopt that next year. Sounds like a good strategy. I’ve known that I wanted to do something medical for a long time, and Ivies would be nice, but I’ve learned through experience with people in my family that you could go through medical school with a decent education from state schools. Like I said, right now, my first choice is Northeastern, mainly because of the co-op. Also, it’d be cool to have those tunnels.

@jer: I had a class like that in 8th grade it was very rowdy too. Haha… & opps ! Yes, I am able to drop a class if it is too hard… but I was too avoid dropping you know?

@kyo: Good luck to you ! Thats an amazing story. :)) Thanks for the college board website by the way! I was just looking at the AP: Scholar Awards section by the way! Would you happen to know how these awards would be distributed? Do they just send you a letter and you it appears on your transcript? :))

@jerevedeparis: Yeah exactly, its like Armageddon in my house if i get even a B on one assignment. Luckily, my parents think a good punishment is to send me outside to play tennis. I am never going to correct them about that.
Its funny, because i am the laziest person you’ll ever meet. Yet my grades are still all A’s. How does that work?

Those last three sentences describe me to a t.

@Evan I hate you so much… I wish you could see my math teacher… She goes on fb all class instead of teaching us… I had a 93 and then she gave me a zero on a quiz because “I didn’t finish it fast enough” but she never said it was timed… And since we hardly have any grades… I’m guessing I’ll have an 86 D:

@Absolutely: last year I had 3 long term subs… ■■■.

@kyo: Are you overwhelmed at points? How many hours of sleep do you obtain on average? :l

@AbsoluteIy: Yeah they get sent to your house. I remember in '04 my sister got hers about two months late. At that point, there was no need. She was already in college

@AbsoluteIy - sorry didnt see your last post. I get around 6 to 7 hours of sleep. I wake up at 6 every day

@jer – My math teacher is hardly ever there because he also coaches baseball and basketball, and he basically texts all of class. Our class average 3rd quarter was 77. :stuck_out_tongue: I had a 91. Your math teacher seems like a *****. Which sucks.

@kzo lolololol My parents tell me to do my best and then I get a B and it’s like ANNA YOU’RE A FAILURE. I got a B one quarter and my counselor pulled me into her office and started asking me if I was ok… And if there were personal issues… It was actually really insulting lol
