Im back :)

Anyone nominated for any end of thte year awards?

Me! A bunch actually, for some very odd reason.

Nominated for: Outstanding Scholar-Athlete, Excellence in Instrumental Music, Excellence in Art, & Kindness/Friendship Award in memory of a teacher who passed away.
Probably won’t win any of them though, I don’t think I deserve them at all.

I got highest average in history, algebra, science, and honors English, mathcounts state, all a’s, geo bee. Meh.

Woah, that’s a lot! Your school has some interesting awards! At my school, every teacher basically chooses their teachers pet to win an award. Not really any nominations, except for some community service thing I was nominated for. Not sure exactly what that entails… But whatever. The awards don’t mean too much at my school anyway.

Spelling bee, NJHS, stu co, 4.0 gpa honor roll, presidential award, knowledge bowl. They don’t mean much, the school just does an awards ceremony to appease parents.

Wow you guys start school early. All the schools in my town, probably in my state, start the tuesday after labor day. Maybe a few the week before.
I find out if I won any awards next tuesday night at the awards thing. They don’t tell you beforehand if you won or were considered or anything.

My school doesn’t give out awards. My high school starts on August 20th.

I’m watching the national spelling bee right now. I feel stupid. It’s on espn in case any of you want to check it out. The little sister of the 2009 winner is there; she’s doing pretty good so far.

I’m watching it, too! I love the national spelling bee. It’s fun to try to guess the words (and then feel stupid when you’re completely wrong, but whatever.)

I didn’t know that the National Spelling Bee was today!! Who was the 2009 winner?

Haha I can never watch it because then I feel bitter. Just kidding. Maybe.

Foodlover - I don’t know who the 2009 winner was, but the finals are still tonight! The semifinals were this morning.

I’m going to try and watch tonight! I wanted to watch the semifinals today, but I was in class…grrrrrrrr.

The winner in 2009 was Kavya Shivashankar. Her winning word was laodicean, meaning lukewarm.

Haha, that reminds me. This kid from my school was in the National History Bee this year.

And an Indian girl win. Desi pride. The word was Guetapens, which means an ambush, snare, or trap. Congrats Snighda!

*wins

10char

My sister and I had a lot of fun watching/guessing the spelling!

Who else watched the Spelling Bee?

Did y’all get any words right?

Good luck incoming freshmen! High school…is going to be the craziest, hardest, and the most fun time of your life yet! So proud you guys are already on CC :'D

Darn, I didn’t know the spelling bee was on!

Notional history bee? I’ve never heard of it. Also I dislike history.

A music theory bee, now that I would like!

Hi Guys! I’m a '16er, too! I’m so relieved that there was a thread for us for once!

So what do you guys think about my 9th grade schedule:
AP Biology
Algebra 2 H
AP World History
English 1 H
AP Environmental Science
Orchestra

Ohohoh! Also, I enjoy Math and science competitions!
Thumbs up if you took the AMC 8 or 10!
Any suggestions?
