High school class of 2016

¿Can I be best man?

Awesome, let’s do this marriage!

@theatlantic: Yep!

@Bassoonapus Yes, it is the oboe. :slight_smile: It was my dream to play the oboe in band and that dream came true in sixth grade! The misconception people have about me is that I’m good at math, which is not true. In fact, it’s one of my favorite subjects, but I simply started early.

Science Olympiad is the best!!! I plan on starting a team at my highschool. I did it in 6th grade and it was so fun! We got to spend a night at a hotel with pizza and tv.

lol
have you guys heard of iTunes U? Basically it is a bunch of free classes made by universities like HARVARD and YALE and STANFORD
I just downloaded a course on drawing and another on geometry lol

sci oly can be done by middle schools? lol and here i am, having never heard of it before!

Did you capitalize Harvard, Yale, and Stanford for emphasis?

Science Olympiad is for Middle & High Schools (Middle is Division B) (High Is Division C) there are 15 people on a team and 23 events. And 2-3 people are on each event (so the average person has 2-3 events) teams compete at several regionals and x amount of teams from each regional qualify for state. At the state tourney teams compete again and either 1 or 2 teams go to Nationals based on competitiveness. (example: Georgia has a lot of teams so they get to send 2, Nevada doesn’t have A’s many so they only send1) teams then go to Nationals where they compete for the title (Nats was held in May in Florida)

BASSSONNNNAAAAAPPUUSSS I use Itunes U also! What a coincidence haha! I’ve downloaded a biology class, it’s pretty interesting

no i capitalized them to signify that they have extremely productive potato farms

@atlantic cool beans! my state sends 2, as I just found out
what is the sci oly like?

@math guy: awesome! :D

Bassoonapus: Thanks! You too!

Boy… It’s getting late here at the East coast. I have to work out tomorrow and I have tennis lessons in the morning :confused: Goodnight CC!

Middle School & High School do have some of the same events, and some that vary.

My events for the last season were:

Dynamic Planet (Ecology)- where I got 2nd at regionals and 10th at State

Food Science- Where I got 3rd at regionals and 9th at State

Crime Busters- Where I got 5th at regionals and…like near last at state

Anatomy: 2nd at State

It’s really fun but a lot can go wrong and get cutthroat. And I’d you have a lot of scheduled events, you may not eat; or will have to drop a few events

What TheAtlantic said basically sums it up. Our team made it to state every year, but we always placed like tenth. I actually had four events and they were all tied together so i missed the free lunch. =(

I love nerd rambling. Depending on how your school runs thing, you may all practice together a few days a week; or you all will practice on separate days based on what your coach desides. But sometimes it gets dramatic. A team in NV almost got sued. And rivalries are fun. Award Ceremonies are really tense, and you’re shaking, wondering if you made it

but is this something you have to like study for…

I did:

Solar system where I got 1st at regionals but 5 at state.

Can’t judge a powder - 3rd at regionals but 2nd at state!!! I still can’t believe it

Road scholar- 3rd at state

Bridges- probably 4th at regionals

Write it do it- Tenth at state

Wright stuff- the only teams we beat were those that got disqualified.

@Swan: We go to state like every other year, and we end up making it or missing out by like 10 points (last year we missed it by one) I had a break, but by that time lunch had closed. So my coach had to sneak me food out of the place so I could eat before the next event. We were Wild-Carded into state though so we were just happy to go.

@Bassoon: Not really
Some of the events are building things (Storm The Castle, Towers, Bottle Rockets, Mission Impossible, Sounds of Music, Boomilever,Mousetrap Vehicle,Junkyard Challenge)

Then some are lab events (which are experiment &study): Experimental Design, Food Science, Crime Busters, Shock Value, Can’t Judge A Powder, etc.

Then some are Study events

Whoa, I don’t go on here for a day and I have to go back five pages to catch up! Although now that I think of it, it’s really not that long…

Anyways, today I finished my algebra summer packet! I’m so happy to finally be done with it. I also went shopping and bought my binders and everything I need. 24 days until my first day!!

How’s everyone doing? Has anyone else started their shopping yet?
