High School Class of 2017

@sg12909 please elaborate? Where do I begin to find said talent programs?

I currently have 2-3 AP’s I plan to take for Freshmen year, is that good? They’ll all be self studies. And how will these programs benefit me?

2-3 APs as a freshman? Why would you put yourself under that kind of stress as a fourteen year old?

^Well, it really depends on which APs @oboe is doing. AP Psych, for example, is very different in terms of difficulty from AP Chem. But I agree. You should try to relax a little bit with the APs freshman year. Enjoy it while you can. Maybe just do two at the most.

I’m only taking one AP as a freshman. It’s Human Geo… Which I heard is one of the easiest.

The rest of my schedule is: Physical Science 9 (required, can’t test out)
English 9 (no honors available)
Algebra 2 (no honors available)
Aerobics (2 required credits)
DECA 1 (I was stupid to sign up for this. May switch early in the year to something else.)

The years after this will (hopefully) be more rigorous. I wish I could take something more difficult for the upcoming year. Some honors classes would be nice to have as an option… Oh well! I did the best I could.

^ I took AP Human Geo this year as a freshman. I literally slept in class and did no homework and still maintained an A.

Yup, you’ve confirmed my assumption that it will be an “easy a”.

It isn’t always easy.

You guys need to have strong analytics for the exam and you need to understand anthropology. I recommend debate to help you with this plus a prep book.

Anyway, the average is so high because the concept is easy to grasp for some, but the execution, especially on the test is lacking. Even Secoja8 had trouble with the test.

However, it is very exciting and fun, so if you like to watch an hour long movie to reinforce your information, then I highly recommend.

Please note that I’ve only self-studied it.

The AP test is different from the class. My avg on the tests were like 95+ if I actually skimmed the book. My avg on the AP practice exams were like low 70s.

^Yeah, I’ve noticed that the class may not always equal a good exam score…

I highly recommend the use of prep books though, especially Baron’s

I didn’t mean to say that the exam would be easy. The only thing I’ve heard is that the class is easy.

I will definitely purchase a prep book, and since you liked Barron’s… I think I’ll try that!

Actually, to ruin your confidence about AP HG, the highest grade in that class at my school was a 92. And the person who made that grade was yours truly.

Well, congrats (:

All schools/teachers are different though. Your school might teach a more intense class than mine does. I’m still hopeful!

@oboe- they’re mostly regional. A well known one is John Hopkins’ CTY, and it has a lot of really successful alumni. I’m in Nevada so I’m in Colorado School of Mines’ CBK also. They offer online summer courses so you can get accelerated in the next school year, the awards they give might help persuade your counselor to get you into choice classes, etc. Feel free to PM me with any questions! Also, I think 2-3 APs is great and something to be proud of.

@Elainajulia

DECA is an actual class for you guys? I don’t know if that’s a good or a bad thing haha. For us, we just give up lunch once a week to go do DECA. But then again, you guys do get 5 days to do DECA, so that may be an advantage for you. If you’re leaning towards business-related careers, it might not be that bad of a class.

I just signed up for it because I had nothing else to do. I think it will be fun but I don’t want to go into a business related career, so it won’t be very helpful to me.

I’m excited to do the International Baccalaureate Program. I felt like I’ve learned nothing in US History due to the fact of people being placed in honors even though they shouldn’t be in it due to their “dramatic” issues. At least I’ll be surrounded with people who would actually want to learn about the subject. Did anyone get their summer reading list, yet? I’m suppose to read “Animal Farm” for Pre-IB.

I don’t have a summer reading list this year. ^

Still waiting for my Geometry EOC scores to come back and my report card to come next week. Having a horrible mathematical teacher in elementary school can caused you to dislike mathematics and think that you lost your ability to do math. I actually thought I was dumbfounded in math because I was absent for a day when my class learned decimal but my teacher never bothered to catch me up. She also taught me PEMDAS the wrong way and thought that you have to do multiplication before division when it should be from left to right. My passion for math has changed ever since my 6th grade math teacher which caused me to love math once again even though I wasn’t in advance. She literally allowed me to skip the entrance exam and recommended me to take Algebra 1 Honors in 7th grade and I’m grateful for the expertise teacher I’ve had.

Alright, sonofgod809 hasn’t invaded this thread. He apparently knows exactly what he’s going to take throughout high school even though he just finished 8th grade. And apparently he’s taking all three Physics APs in junior year.

All of my final grades have been posted for this year!

Anyone else? If so, how did you do?

I ended up with a 4.0, but its not that exciting because there really wasn’t anything too difficult. I’m obviously still happy though!

On another note… today was my last day of school! I’m insanely excited for the summer.
