I’m in the class of 17’ (woohoo)
So I’m planning to take 10 aps by my senior year. (2 Sophmore, 4 junior, 4 senior) And I’m striving for a 4.0+ in all for MIT. Doing loads of extracurricular in my high school years.
Wish me luck :)

Good luck @tonyngo and welcome to the thread!

What extracurriculars are you thinking about doing?

Thanks and I’m planning to do band, all state band ^^. Also, I’d like to get 30-40 hours of community service in. I’d like to get into the math league and ping pong club.

At least I’ll be surrounded with people who would actually want to learn about the subject.

Lol, I’ll tell you now; that isn’t nearly as good as it sounds.

That sounds great! I wish my school had a ping pong club. I would blow it out of the water.

Who knows, maybe I’ll start one next year. Probably not though… :)

I haven’t gotten below a 97 (except 96 in Spanish) all year except a 92 in English… sigh

I haven’t gotten below a 97 at all this past year :). How is everyone’s summer going?

Morning swim practices bleeeegggh. But other than that I’m glad to be out of school. You?

I have 2 hour workouts at my high-school every morning so I know how those morning things are (ugh). I also play beach volleyball on Wednesdays, so that’s fun!

My summer’s going great, if I must say so myself.

Class of 2010 here. High school is now a big blur to me, but I was definitely one of those “try-hard” types. I started in honors and took my first AP class sophomore year. Enjoy high school while you can, kids. College is fun in its own way, but academically it’s like high school difficulty x 20 (even AP classes don’t compare to REAL college courses). I did not take the time to smell the roses in high school, and I regret it now.

Thanks for the advice! I’ve heard things like that multiple times, so I try to keep it all in mind as I go. (:

Here’s my advice:
-1st quarter will be stressful because you are getting used to high school, new clubs, sports, and pace of learning
-something I noticed was that people started to care about grades (if you think someone goofed off in middle school, they’ll probably surprise you and actually start doing well on tests)
-freshman year will fly by
-the homework load will increase
-you will see people who never study or always hang out with their friends getting a higher grade than you without trying
-you will have a lot of fun at Homecoming, football games, and school spirit!

Feel free to PM me or ask me any questions about high school! Good luck!:)

^ The 1st quarter of school is the easiest thing. I think this idea of freshman year being miles harder than middle is blown out of proportion.

I hope that first semester is alright. I would think the teachers would help us adjust a little bit, but I could be wrong!

I’m excited to see who starts actually caring next year.

Did you guys ever regret anything in your freshman year other than working too hard?

Not too many…

I wished I would’ve joined some more clubs, but am glad I joined track. That’s a good lesson: if you want to do something, DO IT, otherwise you’ll sit around wondering “what if”.

I’m planning on joining anything that interests me as a freshman. If I don’t like something I won’t continue it the next year, but I think it will be good to have that knowledge of what I like.

I REALLY don’t want to have that “what if” feeling.

@sg12909

I regret doing my homework and not sleeping in class earlier in the year. Freshman year is a breeze.

Off-topic: I know one of you plays Yugioh here.

Hi everyone! I am also apart of the Class of 2017. Here is my class schedule for next year:

Wind Ensemble ( so happy - made 5th chair in the highest band as a freshman)
GT Global Studies - PAP English I
GT Global Studies - AP Human Geography
PAP Biology
PAP Geometry
Digital and Interactive Media
Spanish II

My school seems to be a bit different than everyone else’s - we don’t have Honors classes but we have GT classes (which include regular AP classes) up until the 11th grade or so? PAP is the highest course available in most situations up until junior and senior years.

Though we really are just freshman, what plan do you believe you were pursuing in the future? Nothing is set in stone of course, but I at this moment would love to study Spanish (and something else - a double major) in college - I just love learning another language.

Hey Delly, welcome to CC
What are GT classes? I’ve never heard of them.
