@apandia If the position is just for 10th grade, then put 10th. If it’s for the remainder of the year and all of next year, put both

@dsi411 my school doesn’t allow anyone to take any AP without taking the corresponding honors class so as a result, most people take AP calc BC as seniors or a select few take it junior year and take online Multivariable Calc. If I go to the STEM school, I would take Calc at the college and go onto Introduction to Analysis senior year at WPI College. Some schools let you take the courses at community college and get credit, others have you take online courses.

@dsi411 Local CC will get me Multivariable Calc, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations. So I should be set afterwards. Plus, there’s also AP Stats (which I’ll probably take alongside Multivariable junior year).
@apandia It goes on 10th grade, unless duties start PRIOR to the upcoming summer (the summer counts as next year).

@DigitalKing how did you get so ahead?

@livelaugh7 So…
I started double accelerated in math 6th grade. Tested into triple in summer between 7th and 8th grade. Found out that we can skip Calc AB a couple of months ago, which really made my schedule for next year nice.
Took world history over the summer going into 9th grade so that I could take chemistry along with biology this year. The entire goal was to take AP Chem in 10th grade.
Also realized midway this year that the “required” (haha) class for freshman that basically teaches you how to take notes could be skipped too. After complaining about not feeling challenged, my counselor told me I could take AP Macroeconomics if I wanted to 2nd semester.

In hindsight, I would’ve done a lot of things differently, but a lot of things happened to work really well without intention. Other than the advanced math path from early on, I’ve worked out everything else as the opportunities arose. I wish I had the foresight to plan out my classes ahead of time (like I have done for next year), but everything worked out relatively nice anyways. Quitting band will get me another open hour for next year, which allows me to take two more AP semester classes (Music theory and Human Geo)

@DigitalKing You are really lucky your school has nice opportunities. I am stuck with an easy schedule that offers no challenge. I’ve also moved around for the past 6 years so I haven’t had the opportunity to take the advanced track for math.
For math, I am ahead of my whole class and thankfully I have gotten and taken opportunities as they have come (doubling in sciences next year, the STEM school, ahead in math, skipping a few required courses… etc).
So today I tried to get in contact to volunteer at this science camp for youth and they said they may not need anyone and I called another hospital and they told me I was a week too young. Ugh

@livelaugh7 It’s not all that uncommon for people to take AP Calc BC as a junior. Rare, but still possible. I took it as a sophomore. The hard part for me is that it messed up the rest of my schedule, since there was only one section of BC and I had to resolve a lot of schedule conflicts.

@livelaugh7 My school really doesn’t have nice opportunities, for most people. I have created my own opportunities with countless hours of meeting with administrators and teachers to make things work for me.

I don’t like organized volunteer programs. I tried volunteering at the library and HATED it. Don’t ever volunteer at a library IMHO.

I helped out with a summer program for middle schoolers; again, I created this opportunity by myself too…

@DigitalKing I contacted everyone for the summer program that I want to volunteer at and they have to think about it… I guess that is better than nothing. The only organized volunteer I think I would want to do would be at a hospital.
@skieurope How did it mess up your schedule? I will be taking AP Calc BC or the equivalent at the STEM school if accepted, during junior year.

@livelaugh7 I’m guessing @skieurope had to sacrifice another class that most “high-achieving” sophomores usually take (i.e. APUSH at our school).
I am fairly confident that I will have a similar problem next year, so I’ve planned out many alternatives. I just really want to be able to take Calc BC and AP Chem (and also APUSH, but there shouldn’t be a schedule conflict with that if I quit band).

@DigitalKing I think making a sacrifice that would put you ahead of the game is much more “prestigious” and “of honor” in a sense. Making a ton of alternatives is a good idea. At my school, you can’t take chem and bio at the same time, and you have to take there honors class before going onto ap :(

@livelaugh7 we also have to take the honors class to go into the AP for the sciences. The only exception is physics because our physics honors got renamed to AP Physics 1 (woot!)

@livelaugh7

Wow, you can’t do Honors Chem and Honors Bio at the same time? That sucks.

Most people that go to my school (including me) get to take Honors Chem their freshman year if they do this 2 week “prep” course for it over the summer (too much to explain). Then you either take Honors Physics and Honors Bio for Sophomore, or AP Chem

@livelaugh7 It was a a domino effect. AP Calc BC conflicted with Spanish III. To switch to another period of Spanish , I had to switch the science choice to AP Physics C.

@skieurope that sucks
@Kawaiiii nope we can only do Honors Chem and Honors Physics at the same time, but you can’t take any other elective other than a language… And you have to have had a 97 or above in Honors Bio freshman year…
@DigitalKing You are really lucks, what state do you live in that has all this stuff?

@livelaugh7 it’s not the state per se, but a combination of semi-awesome district policies and an awesome counselor.

@DigitalKing Still, so lucky My guidance counselor doesn’t care what I do as long as I follow the rules. He questions me as to why I want to do more… ugh

What do you guys want to be when you grow up?

A teacher but they don’t make much money I think.

An ambassador, but I think it’s a pretty unlikely I’ll have the opportunity to become one.
