High School Class of 2018: What AP classes(s) are you taking this year?

I am taking AP World History and self-studying AP Modern European History and AP Computer Science.

@apple1893 I just found out what was formerly the Amplify MOOC is now called Edhesive. It’s open for student sign up now. You just have to wait until they notify you about when the course opens. I just feel super relieved now because I don’t have to bust my back trying to self-study on my own! Just click the log-in button. There will be a link underneath the text boxes asking if you want to make a student account. Right now to get ahead and be prepared, I use last year’s Youtube videos on the Amplify MOOC channel. They are EXTREMELY helpful!

As we are talking about course materials, MIT Opencourseware is another resource I have found that haspublished material from select MIT classes, including all the tests and assignments.

@Madeline25 Oh, we were talking about free AP Computer Science resources/online classes for self-study. Online course materials are probably one of my favorite parts of the internet. Is anyone planning to use getafive.com for AP World this year?

@Hamlon Thanks for all the websites and information. AP Computer Science should be a breeze with all the resources at hand.

@Hamlon Oh haha sorry! I think it does have CS stuff though. I’ve never heard of getafive.com, but I’ll definatley have to add that to my list of resources for AP World.

AP Bio, APUSH, and self-study for AP Euro

AP World History & AP Psychology

I’m a junior, class of 2017, and I’m shocked by the number of you guys taking a bunch of APs and other high-level classes. I only took one AP last year (AP Euro) and it was honestly such a struggle for me. Please take a moment to really reflect on whether you really enjoy the classes you’re taking, and remember that rigor and high GPAs aren’t everything. Make sure that you also contribute to society, get involved in your community, and, of course, have fun. Just my two cents.

AP Euro

@Sightreader I can relate. My school has unnecessary prerequisites. I started with 2 AP classes and I had to twist an arm to add an extra AP class for 2nd semester (AP Physics).

The only AP I’m going to take is AP Gov, which starts next semester for me. I’m a little nervous, but my teacher is also teaches my current Gov class, which is super-easy, so I hope the switch won’t be too painful.

The APs typically taken during sophomore year at my school are AP Gov and AP Bio. AP Euro or APUSH can be taken instead of AP Gov though, if there are scheduling problems.

My school actually doesn’t allow sophomores take AP classes with only a few exceptions. I wish I could have taken AP World or APUSH, but nope, not allowed. :frowning:

Since a majority of you are taking AP World History, here are my words of wisdom. I just took it and I got a 5. I also got over 100% in this class and here’s why. AP World History is a test of effects, NOT memorization. In each era, make sure you know WHY everything happened, why one event led to the next, instead of what happened. For example, ask yourself, “WHY did the industrial revolution happen first in Britain?” INSTEAD of “where did the industrial revolution first happen?” College Board is trying to test your analyzation skills NOT your random knowledge of random facts. Knowing WHY and HOW everything happened will help you on the MC and the FRQs.

I used this thread as the basis of my studying:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/history-social-sciences/1368644-how-to-effectively-self-study-ap-world-history-p1.html Everything this guy says is true!

Here’s how I studied:
Read the Princeton Review once and did practice tests (don’t worry, the mc is harder than the actual test), binged watch getafive.com three times the week before the test (not advised, spread it out a little more), and watched John Green’s Crash Course several times throughout the year. I studied one month in advancedon’t get lazy, study as early as possible

If you need help, don’t be afraid to ask me. I know I received help from a lot of people on this site and I want to return the favor.
