High School Class of 2018

My schedule next year:
AP US Gov
BC Precalc
Western Civ (basically European history) II H
French 3
Latin 3 Pre-AP
English 10
Chem H

@gotmar whats BC Precalc?

@HSTeen‌ Preparation for AP Calc BC. It’s basically an honors Precalculus class.

This is what the most advanced Spanish track is our school (Most people take only Spanish One and two freshman and sophomore or sophomore and junior year, though.)

At middle school:
7th: Spanish 1
8th: Spanish 2

At high school:
9th: Spanish 3
10th: Spanish 4
11th: AP Spanish Lang
12th: AP Spanish Lit

Whats your schools math sequence? We can’t go pass BC because I don’t think our school offers anything else. @gotmar

Our most advanced math sequence would be

7th - Algebra 1
8th - Geometry
9th - Algebra 2
10th - Precalc / Calc (If you skip precalc)
11th - IB Math HL1
12th - Community College/Online Math

@HSTeen‌
7th- Algebra 1
8th- Geometry
9th- BC Precalc (this was one kid, one of my friends. He took Algebra 2 at Northwestern over the summer and tested out of it.)
10th- Calc BC (if you’re my friend)
11th- Linear Algebra/Multivariate Calc
12th- One-on-one Discrete Mathematics with the Calc teacher

All those courses are offered on your school campus?

@gotmar I could have followed that track if they had given me the final instead of the midterm when I was testing out. :frowning:

My Schedule for next year:
AP Biology
AP World History
H Chemistry
H Precalc
H Literature/Composition
Wind Ensemble (Advanced Band)
Spanish 2

For next year, not sure if I’m going to take AP Stat or an (equally weighted) G/T Resesarch class. The research class is basically where you spend an entire school year researching a question that you yourself generate and writing one huge paper and preparing a presentation on it. AP Stat is, well, AP Stat. I heard the teacher for AP Stat is really nice. I don’t know which one sounds more interesting to me. What do you guys think?

It would depend on the other courses. I’d definitely enjoy the research class, but it’d be a lot more work.

Hello my fellow 2018ers! I saw this thread when it was created and I just decided to make an account.

Welcome @aspiringgirl! How’s high school going?

Hey, does anyone know if the rank of the school matters in college apps?

Ok, I’m having some scheduling issues. At first I wanted to take AP Stats and to do that I would have to take Personal Finance in summer school. But my counselor said they wouldn’t have it in summer school and never have had it so I would have to take it during the school year. When the summer school forms were available (a while after I decided my schedule with him for next semester) Personal Finance was on there, just like last year. But when I asked about AP Stats, he said I couldn’t take it because it’s for juniors and seniors, even though I’ll have all the prerequisites done. So I’m not sure if I should keep trying to take AP Stats or if I should take something like Genetics or Microbiology (not sure about this as I would already be taking Chem and Physics and 3 sciences seems like a lot). Gah >_<

Hey! @Cookiesandcreme High school is great well kinda… First semester my grades were okay
AP Biology B
AP Gov and Pol A
Pre-AP Algebra 2 A
Pre-AP English 1 A
JROTC A
Spanish 1 A
Oklahoma History A

But this semester I switched schools so I only have 6 classes.

I don’t think rank of school counts that much because a lot of schools don’t rank but it might count a little bit. @HSTeen

@LosingCrayon I took Personal Finance online because my schedule is too full to take it at school… maybe you can see if there is a way you can take it online.

I think that the rank of the school does matter, so that the colleges can find out how rigorous classes are at the school.

@LosingCrayon, at your school, you have to take Personal Finance?! What is that?! For me, to take an AP class for juniors and seniors, I had to fill out a petition to get in to the class. I wanted to take AP Stats, but both my counselor and teacher say that AP Stats if for those who haven’t done so well in Precalc/Math Analysis. Otherwise, go on to AP Calc.

Ok thanks because my parents want to transfer to another school. The one i’m has the IB Program but isnt rankede state or national wise. The other offers only AP but its ranked an has better academic performance.

Should I try to convice my parents to stay at my school or should I just go with my parents judgement?

That sounds a heck of lot life my school. I go to an IB school, but it’s 1000 or so according to USNews rankings. If I were you, I’d try to stay at the IB school, since depending on what colleges you want to go to, some prefer IB much more. I personally like the structure than IB provides, much better than AP. Plus, it might be easier to rank in the top 1 or 2% at this current school than at the other one. Colleges won’t look down on you for coming from a “lower-ranked” school, since you did the IB program, which is supposed to have the same level of difficulty all over the world.
