High School Class of 2021

I’m doing track.

@Potter3846 she gave me a 5/5 so I have a 100% in the class now, she claimed she never said it was bonus points.

Does anyone else hate weighted grades? I haven’t missed any points in Algebra and then we did this individual assignment that was worth 5 points. I got a 4/5 and since individual work is 65% of your grade and this was our first assignment under individual I have a 85% B now.

Here is my 4 year plan:

Freshman(Current):
Algebra 1
English 1
BioMed(PLTW)
French 2
Theatre 1
Physics

Sophomore:
English 2 Pre-AP
AP World History
Geometry Pre-AP
Biology
French 3
BioMed Innovations

Junior:
AP English Lang and Comp
AP US History
AP French
Algebra 2
Chemistry
Debate 1
Theatre 3
Medical Innovations(PLTW)

Senior:
AP English Lit and Comp
AP US Government and Politics
AP Biology
Pre-Cal
Debate 2
Economics
Human Body Systems(PLTW)

I’m Freshman Class President, Part of a Social Justice group, and Part of City-wide council, and I write poetry. I want to go to a top school and study humanities, do I have a chance? What can I do to make myself a better candidate throughout my high school career?

Parent here…If you’re now entering 8th grade, doesn’t that make you the HS class of2022?
Oh, duh, disregard this post, lol, I only read the first page…didn’t realize that was a year ago and the thread is now up to page 21…carry on!

@Potter3846 I’m rowing crew :slight_smile:

Also, we’ve had the whole week off because our school got seriously messed up by Hurricane Irma and most of the student body had no power for a good few days after it - bored out of my mind and kinda glad to be going back Monday. Just been studying music theory, doing precalc hw (she gave us a huge online assignment last week due this Friday on stuff she was supposed to teach us this week, then never changed the due date, rip us), and going to crew practices. Some of my friends still don’t have power, and because it’s like 95 degrees here and humid I’m really worried abt them :frowning:

@Passionoet we are only freshman and don’t even have first semester grades, so we can predict your chances right now.

@chrysalism I’m so sorry, I hope you’re okay!

I can’t believe we are already in our fourth week of school, I have all A’s and one B currently which will be 95+ Thursday .

We’re already 6 weeks in!

Right now my grades are:

English 9- 91 (oops)
Spanish 2- 96
Algebra 2 Adv- 110
Environmental Science- 96
Theatre- 95
Biology- 92 (oof)

@CavsFan2003 a) don’t worry those are all really good grades dude b) how do you have a 110 in alg2?? Congrats, god I wish that were me

Finally went back to school today - luckily it was mostly flooding and power line damage, all the classrooms are still here. Got my first Precalc grade in six weeks (teacher is weird) and it was a 99 on a test, so now I have a 99 in the course, which is rad. I’ve taken to just tuning out my Chem teacher during class, pulling out the textbook and taking notes on whatever chapter we’re doing; everything she says is either something I already know or incomprehensible and it’s earned me a 98 in the class so far lmao. Just glad everyone here’s gone back to relative normalcy today

What book are you guys reading for English? We are reading the great gatsby and have a quiz on it friday.

We’re reading The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. We have to write 5 pages every 2 days about it.

After this, we’re reading Lord of the Flies.

Finally having test and quizzes! I have a algebra quiz tomorrow, computer science test Thursday, and Friday I have a french and English quiz. Art club also had our second meeting today and tomorrow is my key club meeting.

English 9- 98%
Algebra- 95%
History- (nothing, it’s the fourth week and she still hasn’t taught anything!)
Physical science- 91% (yikes)
French- 100%
Computer science- (hasn’t put the grades in but probably like a 94%)
Business- 100%

Man, Lord of the Flies sucks, I’m sorry

We’re reading The Interpreter of Maladies, and later in the year we’ll read Kite Runner and Romeo and Juliet and a couple others I can’t remember.

So far the best part of school is LUNCH AND LEARN: first, because school lunch is THE BEST, it’s literally made-to-order restaurant food! There’s a deli, chinese food, a pasta bar, salad bar, grill, and a la carte items like chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks with tomato sauce, and curly cheese fries. The snack selection is also huge! I have no idea how a public school got the budget for such delicious food, but I’m not complaining.

How Lunch and Learn works at my school is that, in the middle of the day, the entire school gets one hour to do whatever. Then can go get lunch (and eat anywhere they want, except for obvious places like the library), they can visit teachers, they can go outside and play sports, they can go to clubs…anything. It’s AMAZING!

My top priority club, Science Olympiad, has started this Monday. It’s going to be really intense this year, and the chances of me making the team is extremely slim, but I’m still going to try!

My classes so far have been starting really slow. Chem H and English H are the only classes that have really begun any actual material.

During the activities fair, I do have to say… I signed up for a bajillion clubs.

@raventhemage I wish we had food like yours, our food is literally so disgusting. If you do make the team could you tell me what it’s like? I really want to start a Science Olympiad team next year, but need to know how to set it up and everything.

We are reading Romeo and Juliet, Fahrenheit 451, the odyssey, of mice and men, and the great Gatsby this year. Today we did a paragraph about symbolism in the great gatsby with our teams.

Shana tova to anyone celebrating Rosh Hashanah today!

We’re reading Things Fall Apart and the Odyessy, I think.

Just got my Science Olympiad events - I wanted a biology-based event and one of like three Inquiry events, which is what I got, so I’m stoked. (Plus I’m partnered w my smart friend on the bio event.)
Also, super happy because apparently someone restarted the Biology Olympiad club since it stopped being a thing last year! Wasn’t looking forward to having to restart the club by myself and cajoling my friends into being officers, and I’m excited to check it out even though I’m probably gonna be the youngest one there lol. Gonna start studying + taking the test early as a freshman so that I can do really well by the time I’m a junior.

I decided today that I’m dropping basketball in order to train for track. I really love basketball but my goal is to throw in college (shot and disc) so I want to work to achieve my goals.

I joined the academic teams, and I feel like we have a pretty good chance of being competitive at state. I’m excited for it, but competition doesn’t start until like February or March.

I’m thinking of joining the indoor track team, but it’s really not a team because it’s just a few people from the outdoor team that do like 2 meets in like February.

Also- I’m so confused and worried! My English teacher put in some IXLs as a -37.5%! It brought my grade down 7%. I did the assignments to where he told us to, so I’m incredibly confused. I’m going to talk to him this morning about it. I’ll report how it goes.

@CavsFan2003 that happen to me in computer science, I have a 84% when I should have a 93%. Yes fixing it though, but he takes forever to enter stuff in our grade book so I’ll have a B for a while.

@stanford200381 I’ve been on the team in middle school for Science Olympiad so I can pm you a general overview of things. I’m not sure about the technicalities (like registering for stuff/paying for things) because the coaches handled that in middle school, and the captains handle those things in high school at our district. However, I can tell you everything I know about the glorious competition that is Science Olympiad. (shoot me a pm)

I do know that the earlier you start the team, the better it goes, and better off the team starts, the better its legacy. It probably isn’t too late to start a team this school year, it depends on what state you’re from. Go to your state science olympiad’s website for registration info. I can walk you through some things if you want. You have no idea how hype I am for Science Olympiad…it’s like a lifestyle!
