@scenicstars Took it freshman year! My teacher was all kinds of terrible, but I ended up with a 4 so that’s good, I guess.
@lumen3141 mine is Yale but my school hasn’t sent anyone there in over twenty years so we’ll see.
Also did anyone take AP Euro? I started yesterday and it’s actually not so terrible compared to my honors bio class last year.
@Aurora23 that schedule looks pretty good!! If you’re planning on going into a medical career you’re probably gonna want to take AP Bio and at least Chemistry Honors (assuming you haven’t already taken the latter) down the line, but as a sophomore that’s a pretty dang rigorous courseload.
Also, some medical/biology extracurriculars you might be interested in would be HOSA, Biology Olympiad, Science Olympiad, and (if you’re able to based on your location) interning at a local hospital or doing independent science research.
@lumen3141 yo mine is also Columbia!! I’m in love with the location and the way they structure their curriculum
Just led my first Biology Olympiad meeting as co-president, and I’m irrationally happy about it. We got 10 new members (which isn’t that impressive except for the fact a) that our club was only 5 members last year so we pretty much tripled in size and b) we meet at the same time as one of the largest clubs on campus that happened to be giving out free ice cream that day !!!) We’re actually going to have to start scheduling structured activities/lesson plans now that we’re more than a tiny study group, but me and my copres have some pretty good ideas that I’m excited about. (I’d probably have better luck with this in the USABO thread, but do any of my fellow Bio Oly people have some protips on making studying Campbell’s Bio fun?)
@chrysalism Thanks! Unfortunately my school does not offer AP Bio however I will be taking Honors and AP Chem! Thanks so much for the advice on EC’s too! I’ll have to look into that
My dream school is Duke U or Georgetown for biomedical engineering. I doubt I’ll be able to get in, though. I want to do 4 years of active duty in the Army so I’ll be entering college as a non traditional which I think will hurt my chances
What’s everyone planning on/thinking about majoring in in college? I’m planning on nursing
I want to major in psychology!
I’m going to be an english major and minor in either biology, business, art history or music!
I’m majoring in geography or something of the like!
I’m majoring in neuroscience.
@Aurora23 Still deciding whether I want to major in mathematics or biomedical engineering! Definitely planning to minor in Chinese, though
Nice! @chrysalism
@Aurora23 I’m planning on doing a double major in economics and finance!
Hey! I don’t know if anyone remembers, but I said somewhere before on this thread that my school makes you try out to be on the model un team (i know, it sucks!) and tryouts are next week. It seems as if the tryouts are a lot simpler than the model un itself: you need to give a two-minute speech about a topic assigned to you then you will be given a crisis to only propose a resolution for (there’s no caucus).
For tryouts, I was assigned Yemen for the Yemeni civil war and I’ve literally been working my butt off, because I want to be the best there and get the only spot on the team. If anyone’s a model un expert and could give some advice or PM me and read over my speech that would be awesome. It seems as if this is the only EC students in my school even seem to take seriously and I really want to make captain so I can expand the team to other tournaments.
@wistfulwords I’ve been to 5 MUN conferences and am an officer on my team - I wouldn’t say I’m an expert, but I am pretty decent/experienced. Feel free to PM me for concrit on your speech or with any questions you may have! Good luck at your tryout!! (also, the website Besf Delegate has a ton of useful guides for people just starting out with MUN )
YOOO I finally got my SAT score back- a 1420! I’m so happy.
@CavsFan2003 That’s so great!!!
Thank you!! @Aurora23
@CavsFan2003 congrats! that’s a really good score!!
