High school Co-op program

My son is thinking about doing a co-op program during his senior year in High School as part of a Business Completer program. He will still be taking 3 AP classes along with two other classes, so a fairly full load. This program allows him to use two of his classes to hold a job for 15 hours or more a week. How does this look to colleges? Basically, work experience vs more classes?

What type of job would it be - retail, fast food, etc, or would be like an internship or with real responsibilities? What type of school is your son thinking of applying to?

Probably just retail or menial labor type stuff. He is interested in Engineering, so I doubt he could find any kind of engineering internship…maybe a clerk in an Engineering office at best. Really it would just be for the experience of applying for a job, getting one and being a responsible employee. He is looking at schools like Lehigh, Lafayette and Virginia Tech.
