Apart from the general requirements (English, math, history, lab sciences, etc), are there any other requirements that we should be aware about when applying to college? For example, I know the UCs require a year of an arts or music course, but are there any other schools that have such requirements? I'm planning to apply to a few Ivies and top-tiers, a few liberal arts, and two state schools.

Foreign language. Some schools demand language up to senior year, others are content with at least two years.

There is no one answer.

On their “admissions” web pages most colleges will provide details of admissions requirements. I picked one of the ivy universities as an example:

[Princeton University | Academic Preparation](http://www.princeton.edu/admission/applyingforadmission/preparation/)

It would take you only a few minutes to find the requirements at other colleges. And if you’re unclear about the requirements, contact the college. There is typically a link on the “admissions” web pages for “how to contact” admissions.

Even where it’s not required, four years of foreign language is held in very high regards.

Thanks, everyone. For foreign language - is it four years or four levels that they really want to see? I’ll be taking three years of foreign language but five levels in high school, since I had to squeeze in some other classes this year as a junior.
