high school courses to prepare for accounting major

My son is in high school and he has an interest in business. It seems as though he wants to give Accounting a shot. That said, I was wondering what courses would be a decent "prep" for accounting. He took Algebra already, and will be taking the regular curriculm such as geometry, algebra, pre calc and most likely calculus.

His school offers electives in basic accounting and college accounting.

I was just wondering from the accouniting majors out there if there were any other courses that he should take in high school or during the summer to get him ready sort to speak.

I do not want to spend alot of money on courses at a community college because it defeats the purpose since he will be taking the same course in college so why pay twice?? I guess the credits can transfer, but I was thinking of coursework, or electives in high school that would be a good foundation.

Thanks in advance!!!

The HS accounting electives are a must. You are lucky to have them as many HSs do not offer them anymore. I also recommend a speech/communications class. Presentations to clients or in-house customers are part of the job and can really help one progress through the ranks. Writing skills are also very important but he may be getting that through his required classes.

Thanks. Yes, he just signed up for the debate club and you are right on the money. Alot of folks think of accounting as someone in a cubicle that is making journal entries only. That is far from the case, you have to have good presentation skills as well.
