High school drop out is hopeful for McGill

So, this right here is my dream. I’d like to get into mcgill, do whatever it takes, although I’m coming from a very conflicting background.
My high-school experience is total crap, I went through a lot during that phase in my life, a lot of difficult family and personal issues and I just over all gave up for the sake of getting away from everything back home. So basically finished that with only about a 1.4 gpa. I know. So I dropped out the last semester of my senior year.
Although, I did then take my ged and got high marks, I can’t quite remember them now, but I do know they were high.
In high school I took my ACT but only got a 24 composite on it, because again, I just didn’t care.
I remember after 3/4 of the way into my math portion I left it completely blank not because I wasn’t intrinsically capable, but because I was already in a massive failing sinkhole, which I knew. At that point in my life I was dealing with a massive overload of anxiety and literally could not imagine myself within any productive future at the moment, I just wanted to get out of there.
Later on, essentially got into this long and destructive relationship that ate up 2 years of my soul and life, and when I was 19 I enrolled into a local art college, although at that school I did terrible. I was only there for one semester, but essentially the relationship was too hectic to allow for me to progress towards any prospective successful completion of anything. Thankfully there I was only for a semester. Still, I left that school, and with not much in my hands, a gpa of 0.7.

About last year I thankfully left that relationship. Now I am 21 years old, I began our local community college this last September of 2015

I’ve got a 3.5 gpa there, but this summer I am planning on taking chem 1 w/Lab, calc 1, and possibly bio 1 w/lab.
Then for the fall, chem 2 w/Lab, calc 2, calc based Physics 1 w/Lab, and possibly bio 2 w/Lab.
All of which I plan to pass with an a.
Don’t worry about the course load, that’s not what I’m worried about. I know I am capable of passing these classes and taking them on, even though it is a lot of credits.
Ideally my plan would be to take these classes, pass them with a’s, have about a 3.8 or so gpa, then apply around January to mcgill to get into fall 2017.
That’s why I’m putting on a course load that is hefty like this, because ideally I would like to get into mcgill as soon as possible.
My concerns are first of all about them looking at my high school transcripts, I’m wondering of my ged scores can nullify that somehow. And secondly about them looking at that dreaded art school semester, since technically speaking it is a college. Although all classes taken at that school were art classes, so maybe that can help my case, as not being an artist.
Then, I’m wondering about their transfer requirements, on their website I saw they require 2 semesters of calculus, 2 of chemistry, I believe 2 of physics, and I’m not sure on the bio because on one place it mentioned 1 semester, and in another it mentions 2 of bio.
I would like to pursue physics and enter within that field.

If someone is knowledgeable about science transfer credits, I guess to skip freshman year, can they please let me know which ones are required.

Also could someone let me know their opinion on mcgill accepting credits from a community college, whether they would even transfer them. Im aware I may have to submit course syllabi and all of my exams, I’m okay with that.
But what do you think is best, going to a local 4 year uni first, and then transferring, or giving it a shot from my community college? A side of me feels like they would just shrug at an application from a community college, as well as my past history to only solidify their opinion so much more.

Again, I just would like to get in there as soon as possible, I don’t care about how hard I have to work.
If someone has some advice, please let me know what I should do. And it is mcgill that I strictly have my sights set on, please do not recommend anywhere else.

I am applying from USA, so I would be a foreign transfer student.

Unless something has changed recently, all pre-req coursework must be at the university level so CC courses would not be sufficient. Your situation is different enough that it is probably best for you to direct your question to McGill rather than to members here.

If you’re a transfer student McGill won’t take your high school grades into account. Their website said you need calc 1 and 2 and 2 semesters of bio/chem/physics to be considered for transfer admissions, which it looks like you already have. You theoretically have enough credits to skip freshman and sophomore year, but I don’t think extra bio and chem classes will count towards a physics major. Maybe request a list of grad requirements for McGill physics and adjust your plan accordingly?

@alwaysamom

But, community college are University level classes… They are literally the same classes in the physics program for the local 4 year unis at my state, thus sufficient for transfer

CC are college level, or are you making some kind of distinction between University level and college level, please make this clear so that I can have a better understanding for what you mean and can take your opinion into account

College courses in Canada are different than university courses, in most cases. Whether McGill will count CC coursework as university level or not, I don’t know but my guess would be no. This is why you should call McGill and ask. It’s always best to get this type of information directly from the school when it is an uncommon situation.
