Hey CC Board, my high school offers dual enrollment credit with local colleges in my area. I was wondering if colleges will accept these credits, or will they just take into consideration that these are college classes? I know this depends on what type of school you plan on applying to, but I don't know where I am applying to yet as a sophomore, and I didn't want to put these opportunities to waste. and do you think that if they are accepted that I will be considered a transfer student just because i have some dual enrollment credit?

I think the best thing would be to start figuring out what colleges you're interested in. You don't need to have a list of six names yet, but you should at least have an idea of what you want to study and what "class" or "type" of school you want to attend (Ivy League, small liberal arts college, prestigious private school, state university, etc)

First things first. Build a list of schools that are a good fit for you. Don't worry about "wasting" credits. That should be the least of your concerns right now. That's a question you can always ask, once you have a group of schools that you're truly interested in. It shouldn't drive your search, however. Good luck.

I've taken enough dual enrollment courses that if they all transferred I'd be a second semester junior, but I still applied as a freshman.

A lot of colleges will accept your transfer credits, but most prefer APs since the curriculum is standardized. I think that, if given the choice between an AP course and the corresponding dual enrollment course, you should take the AP. But, if you're beyond APs in certain subjects, you should definitely pursue dual enrollment.

Don't be so worried that the credits won't transfer. If I were to attend my top choice, I probably wouldn't get any credit whatsoever. I trust that at such places the credits don't transfer for a good reason.
