High School Freshman What are my chances?

I know I probably shouldn't be thinking much about college now, but I just wanted to think ahead. Suggestions would be helpful.

Also I am a Indian Male.

Freshman Year

GPA 4.09 for the whole year.
I will be able to maintain a GPA like that in my other years of high school.
I took like 3 Honors. These didn't get added into my GPA

I am planning to take a lot of A.P. in the following years. Maybe 8+

Also I am going to take a few, like 1 or 2, community college classes.

I took a practice SAT and I got a 1750 or something like that.

My EC's now are:

Debate-Did a few competitions
SADD
Key Club
I play tennis on my spare time, but am going to join the team next year.
I am planning to adding these EC's to my resume soon:

Volleyball (?)
Govt. and History Club(Maybe)
NHS (Defintely)
Creative Writing Club(?)
Math Club (Definetely)
High School Tennis Team (Most Likely)

My school doesn't offer many clubs and stuff so if you could tell me other ways to get involved in activities that would be Great!!!! Do you think I shoud join other clubs such as the newspaper and yearbook and maybe the Student Council Association even though I am a shy student?

I was wondering would I be able to get into like MIT, Harvard and Princeton with these Stats. I am looking towards being a doctor.

Also any other good colleges for me would be good.

Thanks

Go away from cc, get out while you can. You're only a freshman and it's summmer, run like hell from here while you still have a chance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you need to be slapped in the face.

how the hell do you know what you are going to do in high school when you haven't even entered it? this is almost as lame as the "what color pencils should i bring" thread.

You need to improve that SAT a little
but other than that - seriously don't get addicted to this website
not many here know a lot more than you do - it's all guesswork
no one knows your chances better than yourself but at this age you shouldn't even be worried about college
relax, enjoy hs, and just do your best

Dude..get a life

harvard. definitely. you don't even need a safety school with those stats.

"I'm applying to Oxford and the Sorbonne. Harvard's my safety."

lol people are starting younger and younger...

way to be supportive, guys!!:( to the OP...it is perfectly fine to be thinking about college right now. Just don't obsess yourself right now. Do try to enjoy your sanity while it sticks around. The best advice you will get from anyone here is to work hard on your standardized tests, but keep in mind that the top schools turn away loads of kids with perfect scores. What you should do now is find something that you absolutely LOVE! You need something that, two and a half years from now, will project a passion and will make you stand out from the applicants who were all over the place. Good Luck and have Fun!!

EM

Yes, definitly get involved, both in school and in the community. You might be a bit young right now, but it'd be a good idea to start looking into medically-related volunteer positions or job shadowing physicians (basically, start exploring the medical profession to see if you like it).

as a freshman i didnt give a dam about college admissions, this is for us seniors to stress about!

^True. Don't stress about college admissions yet. Become active in your ECs, but do them because you truly enjoy them, not because you think it will help you get in to university.

Wrong forum, dude.

PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR & FORGET ABOUT COLLEGE RIGHT NOW YOU ARE ONLY A FRESHMAN. Colleges will know if you only did things in high school so it looked good. You're really better off doing what you love and being true to yourself.

Your list is premature and lacks any sort of concrete validity. You are Asian Indian Male and it seems like you are somewhat pressured to do well in school and eventually go to a good college (become a doctor or engineer maybe?)

I say don't worry right now, but plan out what you are going to do.

Get involved in some two or three meaningful clubs in which you can really dedicate yourself and win some awards.

Do well on your SAT and SAT IIS

Also, if you like any particular subject....practice at it and enter some olympiads or something. Also, try research if you want to. You will have a lot more time now then later on in 11th or 12th grade.

Self study a couple of AP's. They're good practice for later, and can give you a head start at being a scholar by the end of your junior year.

hahahahaha you guys are all jackasses but youre right.

even if i turned a blind eye to the premature nature of this post, there is absolutely no way of gauging anyone with only one year...their freshman year which is btw the least important.

u never know whats going to happen...u have 3 more years. You could get addicted to sniffing glue while doing an art project and youre dreams of harvard as a safety school would disappear with the glue stick.

Freshman? Your year won't even be looked at in some places, focus more on what you want to do and keeping grades up rather then where you can get in. Your SAT score is irrevelant because you are a freshman. Hell I took Alg 2 Honors as a freshman and my score still jumped when I took it again this spring. Get EC's. Starting the summer before junior year if you have decided on a major area you want to study start showing interest in colleges. For now just get EC's because even your GPA is not very determinate because its 9th grade. Keep up the 4.0 and i'm sure you'll be fine to be a contender anywhere - your SAT will prob go up

I agree with some of the other posters...STAY AWAY FROM THIS SITE UNTIL AT LEAST YOUR JUNIOR YEAR, IF NOT LATER. I found this place a month ago (I'm a rising senior) and it multiplied my stress level for applying to college. Although, this site can provide useful info, if you use it in the right way (i.e. the whole "chances" thing on this site is all blind guessing, no one really knows, so don't get caught up with that like I did). I know I'm repeating, but get involved in the EC's you really love (you don't need pages of EC's, college adcoms will see right through that), that's why most college apps only have around 5 slots for EC's. Good luck and HAVE FUN (social life is really, really important!!!) in high school, don't become too fixated in the new pseudo-religion of college admissions in this country while you're a freshman.

Since you're a HS freshman, here's my best advice for you:

Academically, take a wide variety of courses, and focus on the core curriculum: English, History, Math, Science. Foreign language is also very important. A few computers/technology and business classes also help.

decide what you like to do best and spend your junior/senior years pursuing it.

Also, you shouldn't really start worrying about colleges too much right now. Junior year is generally the time to start prepping for tests and such.

Spend time with your friends, go out and play sports with them, enjoy some music, get laid, do whatever! High school is supposedly the second best time of your life (with college being the first), so don't stress too much!

However, it's also a critical time, so don't slip in your classes, don't slack off the studying for tests. Someone your age getting a 1750 on the new SAT is extremely good. Keep up the good work!

An additional note: Saying what you will do is close to meaningless. What matters is what you're doing and what you have done. What you "will do" doesn't mean anything because you won't necessarily do it.

For example, I told myself that I will definitely graduate at the top of my class, get a 1400+ SAT (old scale), participate in USS Swimming until I graduate, etc. Well... although I did get a 1440 Math/reading combined on the new SAT, I've reduced down to being a school Varsity swimmer, and even if I get all A's in my senior year, I would be a salutatorian.

One additional hint for your freshman year in high school: Unless you're big and strong or are extremely short, "cute" sized, and look like you just got out of elementary school do NOT hit on the extremely hot upperclassmen girls, it is a bad idea.
