Is my school’s GPA scale weird? I honestly cannot tell.
% AP Honor Standard
100-97 5.3 5.0 4.0
96 5.2 4.9 3.9
95 5.1 4.8 3.8
94 5.0 4.7 3.7
93 4.9 4.6 3.6
92 4.8 4.5 3.5
91 4.7 4.4 3.4
90 4.6 4.3 3.2
…
The admissions officers will know how to interpret your GPA scale if that’s what you’re wondering.
I’m just curious if it seems very different. Also, on my transcript they put “unweighted” GPA in terms of the standard level classes. Which means because I have a 90% in a class it’s considered a 3.2, while according to other places a 90 is considered a 4.0 or a 3.7. I know some schools for unweighted GPA say that an A (4.0) is 100-93 and an A- (3.7) is 92-90.
Those numbers will be interpreted by the admissions officer. GPA is just a number, so you shouldn’t worry too much about having a lower GPA than what other people have on this forum.
Your course rigor seems on point which is good.
Does your school rank? Is the unweighted GPA written on your transcript considered high or low when compared to everyone else’s GPA? That matters much more than the number that it your GPA.
Out of the 380 people in my class I am in the top 10%, but my school does not give any other information than that. Unfortunately, I don’t know if the unweighted GPA is high or low. My unweighted is considered a 3.67 and my weighted is a 4.56. I know that there are people with 4.7s and 4.8s, but there are only three or four of those.
With every transcript each HS send a school profile which explains the grading system, levels of courses, etc. Your GPA will be viewed in the proper context.
