Question about unweighted/weighted GPA?

At my school, basic "College Prep" courses are out of 3.5, meaning, if you received a 100 in that course, you would have a 3.5 GPA. Honors courses are out of 4.0 and AP courses are out of 4.5 - my question is, I currently have a 3.7 weighted GPA - is that GPA out of 3.5? Or would it be out of 4 because that's "standard"?

Throughout my high school career, I've received mostly (12/14) A's, and a few (2/14) B's and a 3.7 weighted seems low compared to other people on here who have 4.5's weighted.

Also, if it helps - a 3.7 puts me at 15th in my class of 500 students. (Top 3%) and I feel as though a 3.7 wouldn't have the same type of ranking at other schools. I'm just really confused.

Your weighted GPA would be out of 4.5 because that is the highest “weight”.

Your GPA seems low because the GPAs you are comparing yours to are on a different scale.

Colleges don’t care what your weighted GPA (out of 4.5) is, because obviously every school weights differently (and that’s one of the weirdest weighting systems I’ve ever seen).
You can’t easily compare GPAs on different scales, and most people have either unweighted GPA on a 4.0 scale or weighted on a 5.0 scale.
Use your actual grades to calculate your unweighted (4.0 scale, A=4, B=3 etc.) GPA, and then it will be easier to tell you whether it’s high or low.
Your class rank indicates that you’ve done well compared to others at your school, though.
