I am a junior in a large public high school in Illinois. I had a question about high school GPA. I have a 4.6 weighted gpa and 3.9 unweighted and my school does it where an honors/ ap class is a 5.0 and accelerated is 4.5 and regular classes are 4.0. Just looking at gpa would this make me a competetive applicant? Of course I understand it goes so much more beyond just gpa but strictly looking at the numbers would I be in decent shape?
Keeping in mind that GPAs need to be considered in context of courses taken and the school’s grading approach your GPA is likely to be in the range of admitted students. To confirm that you need to also know your rank. Even schools that don’t rank often keep a “percentile” indicator such as decile. Are you in the first decile, or better?
Top 5% for my school
How intense was the rigor of the courses you took? Most colleges really look to see if you took a harder work load than normal. Did you take advantage of the number of AP classes that your school offers? Judging off of your weighted GPA, you have taken several AP courses already. How many APs have you taken versus how many does your school offer?
My school offers quite a few ap courses i want to say about 23 ap classes and so far by my end of junior year i will have take 9. Keeping in mind my school doesnt let freshman take ap classes so 9 between my sophomore and junior year. And courses are definately rigorous. Im not sure if this would help but my public high school was ranked #2 in country by niche.com. Adlai E. Stevenson
@Ronoldo601 whoa… that is pretty impressive hahah
