hahaha i know right?

Dang does that mean I have no shot?

Are all 24 participants listed?

there are 24 people on the list. so if that’s all they’re taking, then they’ve already picked all the people. i also got an email with project descriptions. i don’t know why some people still haven’t heard anything yet…

I haven’t received any email whatsoever about the list or my project, so does that mean they’re doing it as it becomes available?

^Really? Does that mean I have no chance? Do you think you could forward me the list?

no, sorry. the list contains a lot of private information, so i don’t want to send it to anyone.

try emailing mrs. richmond again?

For those accepted, did you ask financial aid?

I received around 85% in aid, yes.

i did too. i received about 75& in aid.

could those who are accepted post your stats? I am wondering what are needed to be accepted.

Hi, I know that I’m late in posting seeing that the last post was on May 9th, but I just want to say that got accepted to HSHSP for this summer and I look forward to seeing you (those who are going) there! I wish I could join the facebook group to get to know everyone a little before meeting you all in person, but I don’t have a facebook! I’m not trying to be antisocial; I just can’t join, so if anyone sees this who is part of the facebook group, would you mind telling everyone why I’m not a part of the group? Maybe it’s not a very active group, in which case I guess it doesn’t matter, but if it is, please know that I wish I could join and I’m really excited to meet you all! (Is it worth making a facebook to join it?)

hahahaha this is sooo funny carolina!

Can any alums tell me what their scores were? I was looking and was really confident until someone mentioned if you don’t score super high you won’t get in. Any help? Advice for applying?

Is this for juniors only? Cuz on part of the website, it says it’s for sophomores (which I am) & juniors, and on another it says it’s only for juniors.

yea it’s only for juniors. they changed it last year so that all the participants are in the same grade.

Is this program one of the more competitive ones or…? Also, does the program give preference to those who are “in-state” applicants?

Oh my goodness! I have to share this with you–I was in this program back in 1980 when it was funded by the NSF. It was AWESOME then and I’m sure awesome now. It sounds pretty much the same. It was only rising Seniors. At the time, our director was Dr. Peebles, and we called ourselves, “Peebles Cerebrals” and had T shirts made up. I lost mine years ago…

Anyway, I had a great mentor and ended up writing a research paper from my research there that got be a Finalist in what was then called the Westinghouse Competition and now is Intel.

What great memories! Btw, I was from the East Coast, so it was a big deal relocating myself to the midwest. But it was good training for college too.

so! how did you guys who got in enjoy HSHSP??

absolutely loved it. best summer of my life. the people are all incredibly intelligent and motivated and diverse. they are the best part of the program i think - the friends you’ll make. also, this isn’t like your normal summer program where it’s scheduled down to the minute. there is no schedule. you go to the lab and work (the time depends on the lab you’re in. some people went at 10 while others had to go at 8. some got back at 7 while others were done at 3). then the rest of the time is yours to do whatever you want. literally. there is so much freedom. it’s just like going to college i would imagine. the food was amazing for cafeteria food. they had everything! granted, east lansing isn’t the most exciting place to be but you’ll find a way to enjoy yourself. ice skating, sports, pool, shopping, movies (we went to midnight premier of harry potter)…

as for the research, it depends on the lab you’re in and the project you’re doing. we had a good variety of projects, from physics to plant bio to chem engineering (those were the most common) and we had a couple siemens semifinalists.

honestly, it was an amazing. the research was a great opportunity and experience. and the people, the social part of it, especially made it memorable.

Are admissions rolling?
