High School Internship at local bank?

My knowledge is this aspect is very limited, so I just want to ask, is it possible or feasible to take an internship at a local bank (Bank of Stockton) or local branch of Scottrade (my dad knows the manager) in the summer before the start of college? I was just accepted into UChicago and my planned major is economics, so I want to get a head start as well as some work experience for higher positioned internships later on.

That said, both parents disagree and believe an internship is an application of learned knowledge, instead of going through something I never tasted before.

So, should I bother looking into some kind of economics internship or job, even if it's a bank cashier, before I set foot on a college campus?

Internship - By far.

Look at each internship as a path to move on toward to your next one, or to get a full-time offer. Bank of Stockton will probably be easier, but make sure that they even allow high school interns.
