High School is over...

What are you other incoming college kids doing over vacation?

For me.... I miss homework. I miss having an objective everyday. I miss being able to solve calculus problems and studying economics... It's only been 1 day after my graduation and i already feel useless. Summer reading... Finished a book over that one day because I had nothing to do.

Graduation parties, other graduations... not much fun really. I don't enjoy parties. I rather be at home doing homework or reviewing for AP tests or SATs... But those days are over. I feel the urge to take out my Barron's Calculus book just for review, so I don't get rusty on Calculus before going into UCSD :D.

I'm also spending WAY too much time playing TFT2 and DotA.

I need more things to do with my life... Any parents won't let me WORK of all things. Sigh...

You guys? Thing i miss most of HS: The constant barrage of homework from AP classes <3

I feel at home here…

YAY it’s an amazing feeling isn’t it!
I’ve been out for >2 weeks-ish, and it’s still awesome… lol.
I’ve been sick for like over a week so haven’t gone out to do that much… my excuse for CC.

I miss MY HOMEWORK. I feel like such a nerd…

wait till you get to college, your screwed! Seriously though, its a huge gap, so wont you forget alot of things?

^why would you forget a lot of things in just 3 months [don’t cite the stats. CCers are not the “average high schooler”]? I mean, yeah, some people shut off their brains over the summer and honestly I’d say they never “learned” the stuff in the first place if they forget so quickly.

Three months is a huge gap. So i guess studying for Calculus isn’t a bad thing after all haha. Though Physics is going to KILL me, took that Junior year… and barely passed with a B due to a terrible teacher :P

Are you for real?

3 months is an incredibly short amount of time…

Again, are you for real?

I agree with ChrisitanWu. a B-grade is horrible, espeically a B+/89%, cause you had that 1% that could make it look atleast acceptable (A-).

I still think 3 months is a big gap, especially when you are moving to a new stage of education where more is expected of you, generally. And yes, Im pretty sure tha CCers are not your “average high schooler”, we care too much :D

Yeah, sure, but a B isn’t “barely passing.”

depends who youre talking to.

My parents would absolutley kill me if I had anything below an A-, which happened a few times this year (adjusting to HS), especially high math 10 (79% - OUCHIE!). Nevermind the feeling of depression that doesnt fade until 2-3 weeks after you start the new semester

I’m taking the first quarter of multivariable calc for the heck of it, since my brother is taking summer classes too. But that’s just in July. I’m going to London in August, and I’m pretty sure UCLA doesn’t start until near the end of September.

Umm~~~I am a high school student in Taiwan…and I want to study in America for university…can anyone tell me what I should do ?I mean ,like how do I prepare for SAT?
Please…help me…thanks…

Barely passing with a B is dead serious cause it = fails.

And three months is a huge gap, you will be amaze on how many people I talk too forget almost all the calculus stuff already!

@konig i understand that feeling! It was my first time in geometry after coming back 2 weeks late into the quarter, and i had a freaking C+, my parents went ballistic! It was terrifying. Good thing my teacher allowed me to make it up!

Calculus was a breeze in my opinion, this whole year i was scoring 95+ on tests  Overall grade in class was 103% this final quarter. Hurray for extra credit!

Yeah, concerning the issue with parents, anything below an A would be a response like “Are you stupid?” or “You could do better.”

And anything that is an A is replied with, “Next time get an A+.”

@ the taiwan kid: What year are you in? If a junior, start prepping for the SAT, as a senior, get yo ass preeping for SAT and ACT and get a 1900+ as a standard score, though my wasn’t even above 1700 lol.
Asian parents ftl.

@shampoo Yes I am for real about the parties, most likely the parties had a tremendous amount of drugs involved as well as smoking the huka. As a huge anti-drug person, it made me hate parties. Almost all the parties in my area consists of marajuana and cocaine. I lost friends because they did it. Quite sad, they had bright features, but got too addicted and dropped out!

Maybe I haven’t been to a decent party yet :P, so i’m hoping college parties will somewhat change my view.

ESPECIALLY the “you could do better” and the “why not A+?” part that get me in the gut. You work your brain like a beast for months and months and then they sum it up in a few words or a question! is it because im half-arab, half-asian? yes, odd mix. but good turnout,eh? lol hahaha

Seriously! Asian parents have no remorse! That disappointing look, or that two word phrase “Do better” always makes me question are they even understanding that HS now is totally different than their era?

My parents are both illiterate in the English language, but fluent in Cantonese and Spanish (odd to the rest of the world, but common in South San Diego) both are teachers in China, now just hard workers in SD lol. So them understanding my situation is of no “relevance.”

But yeah, getting a praise from them is too hard. To i gave up and just graduated with Honors and got into UCSD to make them “smile.”

hey bud! atleast you tried. I think its something most asian parents have. They make you work hard to make them happy, so you think they were being selfish, but in the end, youre the one who benefits the most! I figured out my parents master plan by the beginning of sophomore year  some how it still works!

Haha yeah! In retrospect, I’m glad I have Asian parents! They made me work hard at everything I did!
