My high school career is nearly concluded. I have only two more months to go before i am permanently emancipated from this cursed institution. These last few years have been absolutely horrible. It was ok freshmen year, and tolerable sophomore year, but high school really does get to you during junior and senior year. I mean, all the classes are the freakin' same. We've been doing the same stuff in English class since the 9th grade....read a dumb book, write an essay about the themes (usually about racism, sexism, classism or some other retarded liberal PC "ism"). Then everybody just sits there while the self absorbed teacher blabs and blabs and blabs some more about what she thinks about the book, only occasionally stopping to have a side conversation with her little favorite kiss ups who giggle at all her dumb little jokes. The theme essays are nearly always conjoined with some dumb art project, where you always get an A for making a dumb little collage. Nobody ever reads the book and just sparknotes, thus the discussions never get past the superficial. My math class has been the worst. I haven't learned a single thing in my math class since EVER, honestly going to that class is a waste of time since i learn everything from khan academy anyway. My government class is fun, since it's just a social period where I chit chat with friends. It's also sad that I know more about how the federal government operates than my instructor, who is a nice guy but not awfully bright. My non-core classes are just so incredibly worthless that I don't even bother going to them most of the time.

I feel that I would learn so much more if I just dedicated the six hours i waste at school to independent study. I honestly would....

I am just so ready to get out of high school. I hope College is nothing like this.

ok rant is over. Sorry, I just had to get some steam out.

I know how you feel. I’m only a Sophomore and In my math class I learn absolutely nothing, I always get bored. I get like that in my English class, same old stuff, I get sleepy just thinking about it.

What took you so long? The same was true in elementary school, but none of the other kids was capable of conversation. The same was true in middle school, but only few kids were capable of intelligent conversation. In high school, other people finally start holding semi-intelligent conversations, and you can find plenty of people to cultivate meaningful friendships with. The point of high school is to have fun and prove you can jump through a few hoops. It isn’t that bad. Just make sure you jump through the least hoops possible, and make sure those hoops are set up along the path you’re already walking.

All the CC kids should meet up in Alabama and create a plan to take over the world. We will begin with Alabama because it has 4 a’s in its name.

I agree. I go to a private parochial school, which has a dual curriculum. Half of my classes throughout high school have been religious, and every single one of them has been a joke. I mean, I learn things, I generally pay attention, and I do well academically, but it’s just not interesting… to me, at least.

The rest are also joke classes. Only math has been real since freshman year, and that’s because the teacher takes his stuff seriously. APUSH and APGOV have both been very real too.

AP Bio —> biggest joke, I finished the last semester with a 99 average and I seriously don’t know anything about bio.

English classes are always my favorites, because I know how to write a bs essay. All you have to do is find quotes from the book that are germane to your thesis (preferably long quotes), insert them appropriately, explain them, add your 2 cents, then start new paragraph… eventually you get to 5 pages.

I’ve only gotten a B or less in an essay a couple times throughout HS…

But yeah dude, I feel you. Recently I’ve been actually reading books rather than using sparknotes, and it really is very intellectually stimulating…

Haha, your thread title was so melodramatic that I had to click on it.

I’m not going to tell you that it’s your own fault that you don’t feel academically challenged. But I am going to say that you remind me of some of my classmates, the ones who complain about the workload, the ones who sleep in class because they are “bored”, the ones who cite “I hate reading” as an excuse to not do a book report.

Basically, you are a typical teenager. Good luck with college and try not to feel too depressed. :)

@johnnyzxz: Trust me. If you came out of AP Bio 1st semester without trying and still don’t know anything about Biology, you’ll be in for a rude awakening in May. Sometimes it isn’t the fact that high school is intellectually depressing, it’s the fact that the student doesn’t put enough effort in to go beyond what the teacher blabs about.
