I'm kind of wondering if you meant I'mavoyeur and Doomster, or I'mavoyeur and me?! Uhh..

The latter.

9 hours of sleep dares receive an "only got"?!?! How much do you normally get? ;O

SERIOUSLY. I would kill something if I could get 9 hours a sleep a night. Alas, going to sleep at 9:30 [oh, right now] would still only get me 8 hours.

edit - I HAVE TO WAKE UP IN 8 HOURS?!?!?! HOLY -

Well, Imvaginaina, I'm glad youre not in Georgia US. Because I found out that your motto was apparently said by Oedipus, which kinda scares me, because you southerners have that whole complex going on, right? Glad I'm your hero, wouldnt want your brother/father coming after me.

moodrets, when you typed /random, I have to wonder is that a reference to the World of Warcraft command to /random when rolling for hawt dungeon loot. You seem like the closet-WoW type to me.

Dont even get me started on Beowulf. Repeat after me, Sparknotes is your friend.

This has major LOLz

Well, Nick017, sorry that I'm not too dumb to figure out your name, and that you're too dumb to see that the whole "spelling sn's wrong" thing is between Invoyable and me. My "motto" was said by Hannibal, by the way. I, in no way, look up to Oedipus or his actions, and I wouldn't advocate them by setting my sn to a quote of his. And that's pretty nice of you to stereotype Southerners that way, thanks. But not like I care or anything, since I'm from Georgia Georgia. Not US Georgia. Remember?

what's with the world of warcraft accusations? First you accuse me, than Invoyable
Invoyable, what games? A californian male, probably asian.... its got to be WoW, right?
, who's next? IV? I mean, the title of her most recent thread (WoW -- I mean come one? Surely she's in repression) would certainly warrant a similar insult, right?

Why is it an insult even? Sounds like a textbook (if rather abnormal) case of projection to me...

edit -- Oh, and out of curiosity, what in particular in my internet-demeanor might have led you to believe that I'm of the closet-WoW type? Do they act/type differently, or something?

Not going to intrude into sn's, but I was surprised that neither of you had gone to that obvious butchering of sn, so I thought I would overstep my boundaries and state it, so no depth of immaturity is left untapped.

(Oh, and I live in Georgia. So you know I'm just kidding;P)

Not insult, curiousity, Moodrets. Do I look like the type of person who judges anyone?

I dunno why everyone's so "shocked", because 9 hrs is average recommended hours for TEENAGERS (8~10). During this summer it was a constant 11 at least, around 10~12...

but now that it's school so I have to stick with 9~10 daily, unless it's the weekend when I may get around 11~12...that 1~3 hours is a big difference actually.

No, of course not -- why on earth would I think of you as being judgmental, of all characteristics? It's not like you've judged any individuals or groups of people in this thread, or anything...

@INVOYABLE

Erm, it sounds like you've acclimated yourself to a particular circadian rhythm, actually -- the human body can easily mold itself to most any number of sleeping hours (with an non-proportional loss of serotonin and cognitive awareness levels, I think -- within plausibility, of course), hence the incredible success of polyphasic sleep cycles (granted, all I've seen is a few case studies, but still...). 9 is the most commonly regurgitated statistic, although I would be interested in seeing some peer reviewed journals or clinical studies that establish this to that effect. :]

edit -- lol, and still, even in your number, nine happens to fall directly in the middle -- not quite enough to deserve an only, I think.

I hate people who yell at me for being un-PC. Goddamnit, I say what I want, and if I want to say that black people tend to play basketball, that statement is perfectly fine, because A) as my african american friend pointed out, its perfectly fine to refer to black people as black, since they may not necessarily be from africa in the past 8 generations, and if you compare the ratio of black college basketball players to the number of black college students, its a much higher ratio than white college bb players to white students. Statistics arent racist. They just arent. Stop trying to control my mouth, if you are offended, tell me why, and I will assess the statement and then if I understand how it actually can hurt, I wont say it. But seriously people, if you get offended, instead of whining, grow a pair and just deal with it, whether its about race, or just intelligence or stupidity. And Im not white. Just try to understand that if you apply basic intelligence to statements deemed unPC, you will find that they just statements.

I do get offended, because there is a reason why. I don't get offended by the statistics, but by the way people say them and use them in their arguments to prove some very wrong and POLITICALLY INCORRECT points.

Some people say that black people are stupid or less academically oriented, but they say it as if it is some sort of transcendental dogma. What is a black person? What is a white person? You could give me examples, but nobody has a unifying definition. That's because the concept of race isn't transcendental. Race is constructed from culture... and you are right, statistics are not racist. But, what causes blacks to underperform and liken sports? Also, is it due to some genetic mutation? Is it even possible to measure intelligence? From these simple arguments, it obvious that those stereotypes are illogical and lack a specific reason of occurence.

Our school took a poll, I think the median or mean or something turned out to be 6.5-7 hours of sleep average during school week. Count your blessings if you have nine. I wake up at five for mandatory swim workouts half the year, meaning if I wanted nine hours of sleep, I would have to go to sleep at 8pm.

I take random stabs at people. See I'm like batman, I attack people when I see them presenting an opportunity for attack, but I dont judge them and decide that they deserve life/death and deliver that. Batman can also take a hit, especially when in his batmobile, and likewise, I dont mind if people stab at me, because we all have to learn to laugh at ourselves.

(My above post was in regards to moodret, not you jtm, I hadnt read your post while I responded to earlier posts, so...)

Yes, statistics can be MUTATED in racist ways, jtm. But the fact is, lets say I randomly selected a african american/black (which should I use?) of age 18-22 and a white person age 18-22 and had them play basketball against each other. According to the statistics, who would you bet on, when you know nothing about either? I know who you would bet on if real money was involved (and of course assuming you couldnt see the physical fitness or anything about the two people) Thats all I'm saying, can you blame me for making the statistically sound decision?

Oh, I totally agree, stereotypes are very ridiculous. Like the one about southerners I mentioned earlier - its awful. But SOME stereotypes are somewhat qualified by statistics. For instance, it is WRONG and unPC to insult a race's intelligence. It is simple math and unPC to say, I have this data, I can concur that X race performs worse on standardized tests. Thats it.

Like I have a bunch of Singaporean friends who I met at this summer program at Cambridge. I cracked a joke about how I bet they were probably into kareoke (cant spell, sorry). They, rightfully so, were not offended because that was a legitamate inference, given that (ive been to singapore, Im not BSing you) theres karioke in every place that you go to. So it would be a reasonable assumption to make that if I took a white person and singaporean, the singaporean would be into karoeke.

I agree that stereotypes about intelligence are wrong. Wrong because they are untrue and ignorant, not wrong because they are unPC. I do not think we have come up with a way to collect good data on intelligence in large numbers.

I'm not getting into the explanation of WHY the statistic of basketball players is what it is, I'm just saying that SOME conclusions drawn from the statistic are correct and should thus not be considered unPC and others are not correct, so it should be against social norm to cite them.

Lol, I love that you all continued the argument while I was gone :]

Go to sleep, you need your nine hours.

Lol, I would have had to go to sleep 3 hours earlier than when you said that to get 9 hours...
Besides, it's Invoyable's 9 hours, not mine.

i feel like the mandatory gym class i needed to take back in freshman year was a major inconvenience to my master plan of what classes i wanted to take what year. i blame my not being able to take my preferred classes in my junior year on wasting TWO SEMESTERS of gym class as a freshman.
*** good does a 45 minute gym class do, when 10 minutes of which is spent changing and taking attendance, while the other half hour is for "playing basketball" or "playing soccer" or "capture the flag"? (all of which i skillfully mimed my way through)

WOW i just noticed that CC bleeps out "W.T.F.s"

Yeah, they bleep out everything, including **** **** ***** **** ******* ****** ***** lollololol.

^we will just have to make up our own obsenities:

...wow CC catches on quick! these people really are smart :/
