Hi,
I’m thinking about trying to look for an engineering internship next summer. I’ll be a rising high school senior (17 years old) but I’m taking all my classes junior and senior year at a local university.
I plan on majoring in mechanical/robotics engineering and I’m taking classes that a college freshman in that major would take (Calc Based Physics, General Chem, Multivariable Calc, Diff Eq) along with general ed classes.
Some other things that would help my resume:
-Certified SolidWorks Associate (CAD software, I really like working with this)
-Decent at Java/computer programming theory in general
-Been doing robotics for 7 years (currently treasurer and programming/CAD sub-team coleader)
-Had a job as a Summer STEM Camp Counselor with the school district last year (and my boss loved me so she’d give a good recommendation)
My area doesn’t have a lot of advertised internships for students my age, but we have a lot of small and medium engineering companies. Would it be worth it to reach out to them and see if any would be willing to let me be a paid or unpaid intern there next summer?
Thanks!
