High School Junior - Please chance me for Rice and U Chicago

Hello! I’m a junior and am starting to look at colleges. I’m going to put my stats here and I’d love it if someone could tell me what you think my admission chances are at Rice and U Chicago. I love the love of learning that people have at these schools, and I especially love Rice because of the warm winters.

ACT: 34
GPA: 3.96 (UW)
APs by end of this year (8): AP World History (5), AP English Lang , AP Micro, AP Macro, AP Bio, AP Calc AB, AP US Gov, AP Physics
PSAT: Scores came out, it was very high, basically for sure semi-finalist

Extracurricular: 2 years president of Spanish Club, Math Team, Forensic Speaking
Sports: 3 years Varsity Cross Country and Track (on verge of collegiate/recruited level)
Volunteer: One and only coach for a 5th grade math Olympiad team that meets at local elementary school once a week

Cool other things: previous summer: 10 week biomedical engineering internship at big 10 university (applied to get into this thing), wrote research paper and scientific poster made and presented, will do same thing next summer but in neurology probably

Recommendations: Will probably be quite good/great

Others: not minority or low income bracket, girl

Hi there. I was just admitted to UChicago EA a month ago. As a white upper middle class male with worse academic stats than you, I can tell you for certain that they care about the essays a ton. Make sure your essays display why you’re a fit to study at a place that prioritizes “the life of the mind.” Everything else you have is fine. Essays make or break acceptance for just about everyone.

what’s the name of the biomedical engineering internship? and where? I’m curious.

@purpleandgold1 People don’t include that to remain anonymous. It’s a public forum, no need to be too explicit.

OP, work on your UChicago essays A TON. If that settles down, you should be most likely set.

If warm winters are what you’re looking for, you’ll love Chicago. Did I ever tell the folks on CC about the time my mom’s eyelids froze shut walking from her dorm to a nearby classroom? No? Well, now I have.

If that doesn’t deter you, the the advice others have given - focus on your essays - is sound.

Hi! May I know your PSAT score?

I think you’ll definitely get in if you work tirelessly on your essay. U Chicago really values the essays. Chance me?
