Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone heard about the prestige of summer camps such as Stanford SASI, Stanford CASP, and Stanford CSI. Are these worth going to? Are there any other summer camps that are worth applying for that will be beneficial for a high schooler planning to pursue PreMed?
None of those summer camps will have any influence on a student’s admission potential for medical school. Medical schools don’t consider/look at high school activities as part of their admissions process.
As for helping a student become a “pre-med”—pre-med is an intention held by the student. It’s not any particular major and is not limited to any particular undergrad institution. Literally anyone can be a pre-med in college.
Summer camps like those mentioned do not enhance a student’s portfolio for undergrad admission since these are “pay to play” camps. (And are moneymakers for the college whose campus might otherwise have unused facilities during the summer.)
Agree, Any camp one pays for does not enhance the student’s admission potential to either undergrad or medical school. It serves to show you are interested in a subject that you might pursue or not pursue once you start attending college and counts solely as an extra curricular activity on your college app.
Ok, thank you!
I agree with you. It only helps to show you are interested in a subject that you could continue or not continue.
D has found fun and informative to do Georgetown’s, even if online given the current circumstances.
D enjoyed the one she attended In Chicago, but has gone to dental school instead of med school. One local parent told us his D went to one, came back and said medicine was NOT for her. He said it was good money spent to find this out so she didn’t waste any college time on a pre-med track.
