I already sent in all of my applications and all transcripts are already sent in. I recently got suspended for a fist fight. I didn't throw the first punch or provoke it if that matters. Will it affect my chances of getting in?

You have to contact the colleges. It certainly won't look good, but you have to tell them.

Well you might want to contact the university and tell them what happened. Just don't try to play yourself off as the victim. But it would hurt more in the long run if you try to hide it from them.

Do you have to tell the schools about these sort of things even after your app is in? I haven't been suspended (yet at least hahha still got 5 months left) If I do or arrested for any reason, must I report it to the school?

Well since your apps are already in, I don't think it would matter. Just ask your counselor about it and see what the usual procedure is.

svtcobra and OP - u hav to inform your schools. send a letter informing them about what happened. tell them the truth.
this most probably will hurt ur chances but if they find u could hav ur admission dismissed..

Why do you have to notify the schools? I would talk to your counselor and see what is going to go on your record and how the school is going to address it in the final report. Once you get your acceptances, you can work with your counselor on how to handle it then. You might need to write a brief explanation, discuss factually what happened and what you learned from the incident. Your admission will not be revoked if it was a minor fight that you did not start. Just sit tight for now.

Honestly, it depends on your school. Our deans and APs wouldn't do it to you if you've already sent your stuff out but would note it if you haven't yet most likely. They've come out and told us this before. They're not looking to ruin our future over something we've been punished for in high school basically.

This doesn't discount previous years just the senior applicant time but this isn't a very common occurrence. If you plan on going to college, you should be smart enough to not fight someone, especially when it could ruin college plans.

The common app specifically asks about suspensions on the final report a school submits. Many schools with their own app forms also ask.

The schools are in a tough place. They have to be fair, but they also have to protect their other students. If you are going to report this, can you get a letter from your high school substantiating that you did not start or provoke it, that it only involved fists, and that (I assume) no one was serioulsy hurt, and that you did not hit someone smaller, etc etc, and include that.
