High School Scheduling Help

Hello! Basically, I just need some information on a few things with high school courses.

Right now here is my 9th grade schedule:
Honors Precalc
Honors Bio
Honors English
Ap Human Geography
Honors Alg 2/trig
Spanish 2
Intro to Engineering

So I was just wondering a couple things. So how essential is AP Human Geography? Like, in my school you can either take Honors World History or AP human geography for advanced students. Which one do you recommend? Also, how hard is AP computer science? Since I finished geometry, I am allowed to take AP computer science. Can a freshman actually get an A in AP computer science? Also, what courses do you usually go through after the initial advanced ones (AP HuGe and Honors World history).

Is your school on block scheduling?

@awesomepolyglot No, my school does not use block scheduling.

How are you taking Precalculus at the same time as Algebra 2?

@awesomepolyglot Oooh sorry. I am currently taking Algebra 2/trig. I accidentally put it there, my bad!

I don’t know what state you are in but In Georgia Human Geography doesn’t count toward the HS graduation requirement. It’s offer as an AP in my daughter school as well but she would had to take AP human Geography and world history at the same time to stratify the HS grad requirement.

@sensation723 Basically if I take AP human geography I would then go to AP world history sophomore year and than AP us history junior year. Is that good or bad?

If you don’t know some codes and have some experience with Java and the different computer codes in general, function notation, etc., don’t take it yet. Senior Year wouldn’t be a bad time.

@Anish14 Is my schedule then good enough for like top colleges?

Yes, but take it easy. Don’t be those people that take 5 APs and have no free time- a lot of colleges don’t accept all the credit hours you rack up in HS. I would definitely do APCS your senior year after you get most of the big AP classes done with. Just make sure you’re involved in ECs of some sort, too!

Yes.

For history/social sciences, in the vast majority of schools, but this depends on the school, all juniors take US History, so APUSH is the option for advanced students. For senior year, some schools have a gov’t and/or econ requirement, so the AP versions are an option. Otherwise, there’s always AP Psych or AP European History.

Personally, unless you have a strong interest in the subject, I think APHG is a waste of time; few private colleges give AP credit for it, and the curve on the AP exam is pretty harsh. Now if you cannot get into APWH without APHG, I might rethink that. Regardless, there is no need to take an AP course simple because it’s an AP course, especially if you have little interest in the subject and/or the subject does not align with future plans.

@skieurope Honestly I feel history is a useless thing for my occupation I want to divulge in (doctor). I’m basically only taking AP human geography because more friends are in it. I don’t want to go to normal geography cause then I’ll have my smart rep destroyed. And honors world history has less friends. Also my teacher told me honors world history and AP human geography have same work loads. Although If my school did offer AP world for freshman I would take it cause it’s a useful AP. I find it funny how our rival school in the district allows it while our school doesn’t, and that school isn’t as great as the one I go to!

Feel free to do what you like, but that’s such a bad reason to choose a course.

If APHG is the most challenging class you can take freshman year, and you feel that you can get an A or a B and still get at least five hours of sleep a night, go for it. Colleges like challenging course loads.

Take the classes you want to take. Taking AP World because you would have more friends in it is not a good idea. It is impossible to know if your schedule is rigorous enough for top colleges because we have only seen your freshmen year. Also, colleges want to see rigor, but a lot about how well you do in those classes. If you take all AP classes and get a C in all of them, they will not be as impressed with that than if you took 5 honors, 2 APs and got all As or mainly As and a B or two.
