Hello, I am a male senior in high school and Im really having trouble deciding on what schools I should attend to gain the best experience and growth in the performance/music education major areas. Im hoping to keep the schools down to Georgia as I dont want to venture that far from home but out of state schools would be appreciated as well :) Im a high tenor if that helps any. I was wondering if I should dual major in performance/music ed because I really want to major in performance and receive a Doctorate of Musical Arts but im not sure if that would allow me to teach at the college level.

Having a degree in Music Ed is not required to teach at the college level, but a Ph.D. usually is.

There are some websites that have college search functions where you can enter criteria into a form and get a list of colleges that qualify. Most of these sites are going to allow you to put in the geographic area or state as one of the criteria.

That will give you a reasonable size list to work from. You can then look up each college individually and see if they seem to be a good match, and you can strike off any that arn’t a good match from your list. Just make sure that all the colleges that you keep on your list actually offer the major(s) that you are interested in (you’d be surprised at how many people just assume that every college offers every major). Eventually, you will likely come up with a “short list” of colleges that seem to be a good fit.

Once you have done that, you may want to post your short list on this forum and see what others on this forum have to say about each of the colleges.

But here’s your problem - YOU ARE WAY BEHIND! It is already past the application deadline for many colleges, and you still need to schedule an audition at each college you plan on applying at. That means you need to hurry hurry hurry, as in you need to have your short list ready TODAY, and start applying and scheduling auditions tommorow.
