Hello I am a senior in high school but am lost as to what to do. I was thinking of UCs but my grades won’t allow me (my fault ). I have recently heard of a college named Cal Poly Pomona and of its great engineering fields. Upon hearing this I have changed my mind to CPP but I don’t know where to start ( I know, I know, I’m a horrible student ). My GPA is around 3.65 and my SAT I score is 1710 (Math 610, Writing 570, Critical Reading 530 ). What are my chances to being accepted in? If there is any other information needed, any help is appreciated. Thank you.
@SavageCabbage start here and start that application pronto:
Not sure about CPP but many of the Cal State schools are impacted for freshman admission meaning that the # of applicants meeting the eligibility index exceeds the # of spaces. Some majors are impacted beyond that. Check out CPP’s admissions website so you know what the eligibility index is for your planned major.
The application period just opened up Oct. 1 and majors fill quickly so the earlier you apply the better. You will need a copy of your recent transcript so that you can self report your courses. Then, you will be asked to calculate your GPA from all A-G courses. The link above explains how to do all this in detail. You will probably want to choose some other Cal State schools as backup (and many of the schools require you to choose a backup major).
Good luck to you!
Addendum: You can send your scores to CSUMentor instead of paying to send to each school in the CSU system. The SAT code is 3594 (I think - better double check on the website or on CollegeBoard website to be sure).
Is your GPA your calculate CSU GPA? http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
CPP is a great school for Engineering and the competition is tough. You look like you might have a decent chance for an acceptance. Are you in the local in-service area? You get priority if you are in the local area.
Based on posted stats, you might also want to consider UC Riverside or UC Merced, Cal State Fullerton, San Jose State, Sac State, San Francisco state to name a few other universities.
For the Cal States, admission decisions are based on GPA and Test scores. For the UC’s, they will also look at your extra curricular activities and essays.
I am a graduate of CPP, not Engineering, but if you have any more questions, PM me.
Good Luck.
