Ok so i just recently figured out what I want to do with my life. I want to become an immunologist. I would like to know exactly what that entails (schooling/pre-med/etc.). At the moment I am in the process of choosing an undergrad school. Here's a quick look at my academic specs:

Class Rank: Top 2%
Unweighted GPA: 3.96
Weighted GPA: 5.72
ACT: 35

I am looking at Wisconsin-Madison's undergrad medical microbiology and immunology program but I don't really know too much of what is out there. Which brings me to my first question:
What schools have an undergraduate program in immunology?

Also, i know some schools (such as Wash U) have dual admittance programs where you are automatically admitted into the school's medical school if you are accepted into their undergrad. So secondly, what other schools offer this?

And finally, what exactly will it take to fulfill my goal? I know I have to go to med school and do residency, but that's all i really know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Off Topic: Just scanning through your stats, they are definitely ideal. May I ask how you get a 5.72 GPA?

Step 1: Apply to college like any other student. See where you get in, pick your favorite college. Pre-medical curricula are not a consideration at this point.

Step 2: Enroll in the appropriate pre-medical coursework and sign up for some EC’s, including some medically related ones.

Step 3: Sometime between the end of your second year and the end of your third year, study for and take the MCAT.

Step 4: Apply to medical school during the summer after your third year.

Step 5: Pick your favorite one.

Step 6: Study hard, do what people tell you to do, study some more.

This is the outline for the next eight years of your life. =)

indianjatt: my high school weights on a 6 point scale. probably to make us feel smarter :P

bluedevilmike: thanks for the help! i have a few questions though.

so i should take the MCAT twice, after my 2nd and third years, and then i apply after my third year and not during or after my 4th?

and then say i get into a mediocre med school or get rejected flat out, then do i take the MCAT again after my 4th year and have to take a year off?

and thanks for the help again

NO. You should take the MCAT once. If you get only into a “mediocre” school you should attend. If you get rejected flat-out, you might have to apply again, and that might entail taking the MCAT again if it has expired.

oh ok yeah i read what you said wrong (i had just woken up).

that makes sense. and just to get a taste of the competition for med school admittance, what percentile should your MCAT scores be in to be admitted into any med school?

alright looks like i have my work cut out for me!
