High School Senioritis

Hi, I’m a high school senior who’s suffering from senioritis and I’m going to say that senioritis is not that bad. I was accepted into my dream school early decision, so I did not even need to apply to any other schools. After December my grades went down hill, but my overall health has increased. No more all nighters, no more crazy stressed out schedules, no more insane overachieving. I’ve been cruising through my senior year, and I realized that it’s amazing how little effort it takes to make a B. I’ve decided that for my senior year, I was going to pursue something fun and learn new skills outside of school, and it really has worked. That’s why I love senoritis because it has basically helped me balance out my life.

Here’s a washington post article on the subject that may or may not allay worries.

When I showed that article to my mother she said that it said to throw in the towel! It doesn’t say that at all! After years of basically doing homework, I finally want to live a life and do what I want. Is that so bad? Plus the whole method behind school is bunk. It’s all about memorization, not creative thinking.

Our school is not easy on seniors at all but they can miss the last week of school IF they have not been absent so far. This means college visits & interviews for scholarships! So much pressure that my kids are terrified of missing school. My daughter is getting a senate resolution written just for her & is invited to the ceremony during the day. The school counts it as a regular absence. Even regular excused absences count against end of year totals. The schools have to be tough on absences to get federal money but it is hard on the students.

Senioritis has reached my S1 big time. He got into his first choice school ED in December and has “coasted” ever since. Now he assures me that he will finish the year okay, but I’m a bit ****ed that he has taken it to the extreme.

He knows not to jepordize his acceptance, but it’s hard to watch a former straight A/A+ student since Kindergarten all of sudden get a D or an F on a test…he of couse assures me it’s the “final grade” that counts…

I’m not a happy camper.

Same here - DS18 accepted ED to Marist for computer science. Got an email from the AP Calculus teacher in January that his average was a 50! (He wasn’t handing in any assignments.) So he turned his attention to that class and got his average up to the 80’s. Than last month another email from the English teacher - his average was 37.5 - unbelievable! So of course he got an A on the last test. I think he’s trying to kill me, lol.
