Does student council matter much in Cornell admissions as an Extra-Curricular?

Freshman- Class Secretary
Sophomore- Class President
Junior- Class Tresurer
Senior-???

I've been in student council for three years and liked it the first two years, and now it just seems like a waste of my time and don't really enjoy it anymore.

I want to take AP Stats next year (in addition to AP Calc), but won't be able to take it if I'm required to take the required Leadership class for student council.

advice???

i was in student council all four years of high school (i still am, of course)... but i'm not sure if that helped at all on my application. it's just sort of something i do. however, you seem significantly more involved than i am- i don't hold a position- so maybe that would carry some weight. but if you don't enjoy it that much anymore, i'd say it's not worth it for you to continue. try something else you might enjoy. sure colleges like consistency, but not consistency in an activity you don't enjoy.

stick to it. your consistent dedication to it will help. especially since u were class president one year.

thanks i lot...i think i will

I don't know anything about your school, but IMO taking AP Stats and doubling up on math is more impressive and more beneficial in the long run compared to a leadership class. I'm also taking ap calc and ap stats and it's worth it since it looks good and you get AP credit for it.

even if i'm thinking of majoring in government?

stats is an interesting subject...but im not sure if it's a good decision to take it at the expense of an EC that i have put so much time into over the years

and student council will probably be fun senior years...when my present junior year identity crisis is over :)

if you want to major in gov't it will fit greatly into your essays

also, in your how will you utilize cornell you can talk about participating in the stu gov as a continutaion of your HS activities and an expansion of your govt interest
