High school student from Southern California aiming for UCs [3.98 GPA; computer science]

CS admit rates for the UC’s:

UC Berkeley: 2.3% High Demand Major- Reach
UCLA: 3.8%- Reach
UCI: 5.8%- Reach
UCSD: <10% estimated Selective Major- Reach
UCD: <20% estimated Selective Major- Target
UCR: 36% - Likely

You are definitely a qualified and competitive applicant and the Reach UC’s are obtainable but still Reach schools. With CS being one of the top most applied majors, there are plenty of well qualified applicants that are denied or waitlisted.

Best of luck.

You look like an extremely competitive applicant. Hard to gauge as we haven’t read your PIQs. Hopefully you wrote great essays and wrote an impressive activities and awards section. Computer science is so competitive, it’s also hard to evaluate apps as many competitive applicants won’t get in where they might under other majors. Sounds like a great back up plan with ASU.

My son was in your shoes last year with no idea where he might be accepted if at any UCs. He ended up getting into 5 of 7 and is a freshman at UC Berkeley.
