Just received news that I didn’t make it into All State (for music). Failing AB Calc, failed an SAT II, not even doing well in the classes I thought I would do well in. Got 3rd place (out of 3) for a music competition, band director and dad moved away for new job opportunities.
Sorry to hear this!
You are still a good musician if you are trying out for All State!
For SAT 2s, you can look for colleges that don’t require them. Find a school that fits you…don’t try to fit a school.
We’ve all had bouts of bad news, and it stings, but you’ll get through it! Focus on your classes, and finish as strong as possible. Chin up and move forward!
Sorry to hear that you’ve had such a rough time. As others have said, the fact that you were able to try out for All State means you did darn well at All County-top of the heap. You can’t fail an SAT2. So we know that you are catastrophizing a bit. No worries, you have a right to catastrophize if you feel it.
Your classes are not going well, at least a couple of them, and your dad isn’t around. So you have every right to feel bummed. Also, you are in high school. And we all know that being a high school student can be a real drag. There is almost nothing worse than that…except of course being a middle school student. Wow. Look at that! You made it through what is universally known to be the very worst, bottom-of-the-barrel couldn’t be worse, terrible horrible years.
Remember middle school? Even the best of days were terrible! At least for most of us. And you got through those. You’ll get through these too. If you continue to feel bummed you should see if you can talk with a school counselor on a regular basis -at least until you are feeling better about things. A school counselor can also help keep you motivated when your energy dips.
And when you start feeling that nothing can be worse than high school right now, just remind yourself that you survived middle school. MIDDLE SCHOOL! Now that is one stage of life that should be banned altogether. Whoever invented it should be ashamed. You are a middle school surviver. Nothing can stop you now!
