So, I’m a Junior at SDSU, Journalism-Advertising major. My GPA right now is 3.7 (I had an awful GPA my first semester and then 3.8+ each semester after that). I want to minor in Political Science, but the classes are so time-consuming and I don’t think I’d be able to get an A in all of them.
So I was wondering would it be better to get the highest GPA possible for when applying to MBA programs or have a minor in political science. I want to apply to some better schools such as UCSD and UCLA, but I know I won’t get in since I don’t have any work experience, so I’ll probably just end up at a CSU again.
My $.02 - keep the GPA high and forget the minor. Work for a couple years, then crush the GMAT and apply broadly. An MBA right out of undergrad is not the norm (for a reason). Good luck!
The higher GPA is more important given your situation.
If you were minoring in mathematics or computer science then I believe the minor would be worth pursuing, not for history though. A history minor will not help you in MBA admissions, a high GPA will.
Like arc918 mentioned you should not pursue an MBA right after graduation. Any MBA program that accepts recent grads into their MBA program is not worth attending. (excluding special programs for exceptional students at Harvard and Stanford)
