Hi, my daughter is getting ready to start some applications soon and was wondering if we could get any advice/tips about how to talk about her theater involvement on the common app. Since she has been heavily involved in drama all years of high school, and the time commitment has been intense (basically the whole school year - average 15 hours/week), she really hasn’t had much time for any other significant ECs. She has had a very rigorous academic schedule, so time spent on theater was really all she could manage during the school year.
Are there any points that she should be sure to make, any ways to highlight the big time commitment or the variety of jobs/skills she has had/acquired?
Also wanted to add that we are looking for significant merit and/or hopefully a large financial aid package. NCP won’t pay anything toward college, and I know he needs to provide financial info or CSS profile. However, I know some schools vary in terms of how much they count his income.
FYI, D does not want to major in theater but would like to be involved in productions if possible.
Did your daughter perform in plays? Are there any roles she could put down? Also, at my school the drama kids were totally responsible for things like setup and strike, so if that’s the case with her as well then that could be a benefit.
@Philpsych Yes, she has performed in several plays, had leading roles in two plays last year, and has been heavily involved in set construction, tech work etc.
