Does the freshmen year count at all for UCI?
Isn't it that the applications for UCI are due when you're in your first semester senior year so that they only look at Soph and Junior?

Do I look good with grades:

Freshmen:
-4.0 [first sem]
-3.6 [2nd sem]

Soph:
-4.0 [first sem]
-4.1 [2nd sem] ?

Im still working on ec's and comm.service.
[i wanna get into criminology]

OH YEAH...
Do you think it's possible to have double major in Fine Arts and Criminology with minor in Chinese?

Yeah, they only look at your soph and junior grades, weighted. those grades + decent SAT score (i'd say 1800+) will definetly get you into UCI, no problem.

I say you have a pretty good chance getting in. Get decent SAT scores =). Oh yea keep bringing up that GPA. Go Anteaters!

They do NOT ever look at senior year grades unless you appeal or something. They will, however, see what classes you say you will take in senior year on your application and consider it.

From my experience, community service doesn't really help. I got angry to find out some schools did not even consider it, especially if it isn't big. UCSD does, however, give points for community service. The myth is for 150 hrs, you get 150 points, and for 300+ hrs, you get 300 points.

Anyway, do community service if you're going to really key in on it during the application process. For example, write about a passion you have for community service in your essays. If you're not really that type of person, just get like 300 hrs done and get on with academics =P.

I think a lot has to do with SAT I score. cuz my GPA was.. okay (not many honors/AP), my essays were complete and utter CRAP, and the only community service I participated in was Key Club.. but my SAT I score was pretty good

The number of hours of community service is not particularly important--the thing they look for is that you at least did some.

Honestly, if you think about it, unless you're referring to CAS/IB/NHS hours for Community Service, schools have no real way of being able to track the hours that a student has completed.

Though having 300+ hours should prove to be highly beneficial for one to be admitted, I would think that it would have a minimal advantage over someone who's completed--let's say--150 hours.

For UCSD, I'd definitely say 300hrs+. They have a whole section worth 300 points dedicated to community service...so just get it. I read last year's UCSD threads, and, apparently, some school had the entire guide publicized on a website. It was 150+hrs=150 pts and 300+hrs=300pts. Since you are going for UCI, I don't think you have to worry that much. Their admissions criteria may not emphasize community service.

Thats awesome. I'm only gonna try for about 60 ish. My umm...school requires to have 30 to graduate and so far i have none. D: Im gonna get some hours later this week and at comic con.
