Please speak only in English (so this thread doesn't get deleted :)), but for an ABCD, please explain the difference...

i always thought that the song "dil cheez kya hai aap meri jaan lijiye" was in hindi, but apparently, it's urdu...what parts make it urdu? are other asha bhonsle songs in urdu? like "in aakhon ki masti"? both languages sound exactly the same to me (though i can tell the difference in writing)...please help! soooo confused!

at a colloquial level hindi and urdu are very similar....however urdu draws some of its words from arabic/ persian...while hindi draws them from sanskrit. Both languages however are influenced by all three - persian, arabic and sanskrit. In the particular song i am not sure which is the urdu word, i think it may be cheez.

lol...i'm not quite a bollywood freak :)
i do look like aishwariya rai in hum dil de chuke sanam, though...except my hair really is long, it's not a fake extension thing
aaaahhh! so how do you tell the difference between hindi and urdu? i'm soooo confused!

lol...thanks, astrix :p
and no, i'm indian, but not the deceptive kind, so i wouldn't send you a pic of aish and say that was me...not to mention, it might be kinda sad if you can't tell ash from another girl...lol...j/k

sorry, don't look like Riya Sen...her clothing's kinda provocative, too
I am a HINDUSTANI LADKI! I don't wear stuff like that. Not to mention that my hair's black and longer.
She is pretty, though :)
