Hispanic or Hispanic & Native American

So guys, I am mainly hispanic, but still have some native american blood in me. I know colleges tell you to mark what you most identify yourself as, but to be honest, I'm not sure what I even consider myself.

Would it be best just to mark my race as hispanic? Or should I mark Hispanic AND native american? I assume if I marked both Hispanic and Native American I would be considered "other"? If not what would I be considered for admissions reasons? Doesn't it benefit me more to classify myself as "Hispanic" instead of "Other"?

Thanks guys

First of all, you’re in a dilemma that almost all of the college-crazy kids on this site would kill for. :)

Moving forward. Mark whichever you feel most comfortable with; do you identify yourself as Native American? Have you done so for the majority of your lifetime? If so, mark both. If you’ve always identified as being solely Hispanic, mark only Hispanic. Either way, you’re still a URM, so in this special case, you can’t lose.

Best of luck!

Please do a Search for ‘native american’ on this forum and you will come up with threads such as:

Since Hispanics can be of any race(s) (see the H/L defined sticky thread), if you mark Hispanic for ethnicity and NA for race, you will still be considered Hispanic, not Other.

Be aware that claiming NA on college apps is different from any other URM category as some schools ask for verification.
