i know it's about 10%, so probably 100 students in the major per yr? it doesnt matter with what major you apply since they know most people change within their first yr. the major you put down cant possibly hurt you unless it seems very random.

The department is great BTW

Columbia is known for its excellent undergraduate humanities programs, such as History and English. They are some of the top programs anywhere.

Eric "the Red" Foner is a faculty member in the history department.

as is Manning Marabelle (sic?)......author of How Capitalism Underdeveloped Black America. Him+ Foner= 2 of my favorite authors..... can't wait til fall!

The Professors are well known, but a bit too communist for my liking.

That sounds like a nice change of pace--I come from the Deep South next to a military base.

I'm surrounded by communists being in Japan... sigh, can't get away from them i guess.

technically they're socialists/communitarians. but you're not too far off.

Yes, I believe they were one of the departments of 100% registered democrats, but to what extent they impose (which is different from presenting) their beliefs and are tolerant of more conservative beliefs I am not sure of.
