I am a freshman and my previous plan was doing a Biochem major and Econ minor. I am now having a change of heart, and am thinking about doing a History Major and Biochem minor. I really enjoy History and want to broaden my knowledge of the subject.

My ultimate goal is to get into Med school.

Which plan do you guys think is a better bet?

No need for a minor; it won’t have any significance (unless you really, really want to).

Either way, doesn’t matter. Any of those will work, as your major doesn’t matter for medical school admission.

They are so many opinions about this topic that its driving me crazy. Some people say to stay away from Bio-esqe majors, some say that a science background is key to med school success, and some say that majors just don’t matter. If you talk to your counselor, they will just tell you to, “follow your heart.” This is so frustrating.

Where are you getting conflicting opinions from?

The idea that any major (except vocational majors) is fine is the correct one.

I’m getting conflicting opinions from med students and some from other forums.

I am sure you understand the frustration and insecurity I am feeling Gold. You get pretty confused if an answer choice is “all of the above” haha.

Oh and another thing. From talking to people and reading online, people have said that History majors are looked at as “lazy” when compared to some of the more difficult majors by medical schools. Now I know some history majors…and I can attest to that lol.

Your thoughts?
