I am currently a freshman at my university majoring in Microbiology/Pre-Med. I am also in the Honors College and am taking courses in that college to fulfill the Honors curriculum. I really really really love History and want to minor in it. The minor has already been delcared and everything, but I haven't started any major History classes for my minor yet. I was wondering if it was okay for a pre-med student to minor in a subject like History? I know I will have to take a lot of Science courses and feel that history would provide a nice balance to my coursework. However, I'm afraid my coursework might get really heavy considering I am also an Honors student and have to take some honors courses. But I really love history and think I can do it. Any advice? Will medical schools look down on me if I don't minor in something science related? Do you think history is an okay minor for Pre-med student? Thanks in advance!

A vast majority of people who apply to medical school are science majors, therefore everyone looks the same. Majoring or minoring in other subjects will make you stand out. Medical school admission directors will tell you to study what you want to study. It does not matter what you major or minor in. All that matters are that you meet the prerequisites for medical school.

Totally fine.

Some pre-meds major/minor in History, English, The Classics, Music, Religion, etc. As long as you have the pre-med pre-reqs, that’s what matters.
