Hey guys whatsup. Im curious. Im a history major and applied to UCLA, UCSB, UCB, UCSD, and UCD and havent heard back from any of them (UCLA and Cal I know I wont hear back from for a while). I have been looking around on the forum and havent seen really anyone who has been accepted to any school (minus maybe a few people) with this major. Which leads me to believe that they are possibly going by major? Could this be true?

Unfortunately, it isn't. LOL. I'm a Psychology major myself and I still know people on this board that haven't gotten in.

Sorry to burst your bubble. I'm sure we'll never find out what the technique is.

I really want to work half-time for admissions. >__>;;

Good luck and don't stress until April. [:

Easier said than done. Haha Did you get accepted to any schools within your major?

I got accepted to three already. Just waiting on Cal. I only applied to 4 because I got the Fee Waiver.

UCI, UCD, UCSD. [:

I'm a history major also. I applied to UCR, UCI, UCSD, UCLA, and Cal.

In so far at UCR, UCI, and UCSD. Just waiting on LA and Cal.

Spartan611, my son is also a history major and hasn't heard from anyone yet. He applied to UCD, UCSB, and UCSC. I was figuring it was because community colleges and CSU's (and other UC's) have priority, but maybe the major is a factor? He is currently at an OOS university,in the honors college there and doing well-- he just would prefer to be back in Cali. The waiting is tough!

spartan611, i'm a history major. i applied to UCLA, Cal, sb, and davis.... ive only gotten an acceptance from santa barbara as of now.

what are your stats?

Wow, it's good to see that there are a few history majors on these boards. I know that the waiting can be nerve-wracking. What areas are you all interested in studying?

Spartan> I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that it Ancient for you. lol

Krnnoodles:
If you dont mind me asking what was your GPA? UCSB is the one Im really anxious about.

My GPA isnt great. I received an F in pre-calculus in Spring 2008 due to some personal reasons (which I put into my essay). I took it in high school and passed but Santa Monica College required I do it again. So I got an F and retook it in Fall only to realize I dont need to take Calculus classes or even be a Business Econ major to do what I want to do. Its all about experience. So I took a W in it for the fall, because I was struggling again, and switched to History as my major. My GPA when I applied combining my first semester at CSUN and the 2 semesters I took at SMC before I applied was around a 2.8. But Im scared because of the F and the fact that I heard that UCSB doesnt read apps alot. Is that true? If so they dont see my explanation for my F? Cuz I have great grades otherwise. Around 10 A's, 2 B's and 3 C's or so. Any help with this?

And actually I want to be a stock broker. I just like history and plus I dont need calculus for my career. But yes ancient history is my specialty. :)

well currently my gpa is about 3.9. i reported around a 3.82 when we applied in the fall. I'm hoping that by completing TAP for both UCLA and Cal it will help my chances of getting accepted.

i finished all prereqs and IGETC and will be finished with the prereqs for my alternate major, anthropology by the end of this spring. i got the rest of the stuff: pretty good essays, lots of ECs, but you never know what could happen.

have you done any TAGs?

I'm a history major as well.
Have not been accepted or denied from anywhere yet...
3.5 with tag at ucr and tap at uci and ucla
all pre-reqs done
and just one class to finish up the igetc during spring.
I had good essays, and I have some AP credit as well...
i'm totally stressin it!!!!

i'm a freshman at smc and i'm thinking of majoring in history. but i'm not sure what I can do with it. also, what are the upper division classes like?
im hoping to transfer to berkeley or ucla (i'm in tap for both).

I'm a history major at Cal. I got in with a 3.89 or something like that. History classes at Cal are no joke. I think its easy to get in the B range, but you really have to work for that "A". Forget about those scantron tests that you got at cc, all the tests here are essay questions. Oh and its not just regurgitating information, you have to show that you fully comprehend the material in a critical thinking essay type format.

hey, as a suggestion, since you would like to become a stockbroker,

you should find a firm that is willing to sponsor you to take the series 7 exam (to become a licensed representative to sell/buy stocks)

that way, you can start your career early :] but since the economy is so bad right now, probably nobody is buying stocks
