Chances for History Major

Applying to: UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCI

Major: History

All but one pre-req is done (I could complete it this semester but I'm not sure if that would help...?)

GPA: 3.875

UC-transferable GPA: 3.85

Essays: Average, probably a little above average but not stellar by any means

IGETC isn't completed but the GE requirements are (I am missing physical science with a lab and a foreign language).

ECs: Speech and debate, a LOT of church volunteering (20+ a week), worked full time for three months

Even though you are missing 2 classes, they are not pre-reqs for your major so I assume you will still get into all those schools with your stellar gpa.

great chances for UCLA, definitely in at sd and uci, contender for cal

do you have TAP?

No I don't think my school offers that except for UCSD.

Should I take the other history class this semester?

And if you guys would like I could PM you my essays and you be the judge.

which cc are you currently at?

whats your current classes for spring?

how many history classes have you taken so far?

I've taken five; I just need history of the middle east.

Right now I'm in anthro and I'm still not set on my classes this semester because I'm waiting back to hear from a job (to save $) and then I'll make my schedule.

Right now though: astronomy and a lab, two posc, art and I guess history of the middle east. I'm really flexible this semester.

Nick you're in. For your major, with your GPA, your personal statement really won't matter. However, taking those pre-reqs wouldn't hurt at all.

Good Luck.

which ccc are you at right now?

you're good to go, you dont need the history of the middle east (not a REQUIRED prereq) and you have MORE than the minimum for history

nickthecoolest> what area of history are you interested in?

I'm interested in WWII/Holocaust/20th Century and perhaps The Age of Nation-building in the Middle East.

Yes I do, "III. Asia, Africa or Latin America: One course"-- I haven't done that.

Crap. I just realized something. It says on assist.org:

"By the end of the spring term preceding fall enrollment at Berkeley,
you must complete either:

1) The L&S Requirements in Reading & Composition, Foreign Language, and
Quantitative Reasoning; OR
2) IGETC "

Since my IGETC won't be done, does this mean I have to take a foreign language this semester?

you didnt complete a foreign language in high school?

No, I only took AP Spanish and dummy me didn't take the AP test...taking it this year would be too late for the application update.

Nick:

You will NEED to complete both the foreign language + physical science w/a lab. These are requirements for all UCs. Also, go ahead and take that last Pre-req for history, it can only help your chances.

University of California - Admissions

University of California - Admissions

^^^ The foreign language and biological/physical science + 1 lab are the minimum requirements.
