Okay so sophomore here (Go class of 2014)! ;D

Um, Current SAT score, 1900s. Give or take..

CR: 620s usually
W: 580s (no essay)
M: 680s

My goal score for my first SAT junior year: 2200+

Taking the PSAT saturday and parents are really stressing for the big 2 0 0! O:

I'm reading silverturtle right now (hope I can jump to a 800 for writing! ;))

What are some good math and reading tips?

THANKS!

I’d like to know as well.

Just know your grammar rules, like the common ones listed in silverturtle’s and then learn to recognize them! Memorizing them doesnt help everyone and its easier to recognize errors on the spot.

Math: read the question CAREFULLY. ETS LOVES to trick students and tries many underhand tricks. If you have time, do each question AGAIN and AGAIN if you have time. Don’t do it the way you did the first time. Start from scratch and see if you get the same answer.

Critical Reading: Memorize every word in Direct Hits. The words on the PSAT aren’t as tough as those on the SAT and DH covers almost all of them.
Passage Reading:Read the passage carefully and try to make conclusions about the theme/purpose and the authors tone as you go along. Remember: If an answer is NOT supported by the passage, then it is WRONG. Look up “tone words.” The SAT and PSAT do not use simple words to describe the passage. Words like “caustic” “vehement” and 'emphatic" appear 95% of the time instead of “intense” “strong” (usually)

Okay so one of my main problems is the topic. Like I try (SUPER HARD) to LOVE it, to HOLD it, to BELIEVE in it. Except now instead of getting 8 wrong, I get 5! How do you drop it down to 2?

Writing: Practice test –> review answers —> ask questions about certain concepts –> practice test —> rinse and repeat. How I went from 400s to 800s

CR: Practice test with UNLIMITED time. Try and get a perfect score. When you get something wrong, go back and see what CB was thinking. You’ll slowly see how it works. it’s tough.

Vocab: Direct Hits + another list (DH alone won’t get you a perfect, only close to it)

I went from 400s to 700+

Math: Can’t help you here, I’m more natural at this section.

It is possible. 2 year for preparing!!

Don’t stress if you don’t get a 200. You’re a sophomore and getting a 180+ even is very good. And you will still have a year to improve.

Thanks but my parents are really pushing for the 200.

So yeah, need more tips! Thanks crazy pluto (:
