I've already sent an update to my RD schools (early February), but received a few more awards very recently - advancement to National Merit Finalist, qualified for FBLA state (which might be worth sending to Penn, since I'm applying for their business/CAS dual-degree), etc.

I've heard conflicting views on whether or not I should send a second update in. Some people say that "the thicker the file, the thicker the applicant," while others say that a second update without any major (national/international) awards will aggravate the admissions people.

Also, I am a Moog Scholarship finalist at WashU in St. Louis. This wouldn't be appropriate to include in the update, if I send it, right? (since it's a university thing rather than a third party scholarship)

No, you shouldn’t send a second update. It’s annoying and isn’t going to help you. It’s as good as assumed that if you’re an NMSF, you’ll be an NMF. And regardless, National Merit is about the money. All it actually says about you is that you did well on a practice version of a standardized test, and colleges are already getting your standardized test scores and making their own judgments about them.

Sending that to other schools says “Hey, if I get this scholarship, I’m probably not coming to your school. Let me in please?” Don’t wave their competitors in their faces. They all care about their yield figures and don’t want to give spots to students who aren’t actually interested.
