HMPE; Med Scholars at University of Pittsburg; Med Scholars at UCSD

Hi guys this is my first post on CC!! I'm currently a stressed out junior who is really worried about college. Im very interested in the Medical field!! I've been doing a lot of research and I think the BS/MD programs are very appealing to me. But I dont really know what these programs are looking for because everyone is saying different things. I listed three choices in my Title but I'm certainly open to suggestions for highly competitive medical programs. Well these are my stats, please tell me other things that I would need to do to improve my chances into being accepted into this program.

I go to a top 40 high school in the US according to USNEWS
Current GPA (unweighted): 3.64
Current GPA (weighted): 4.02
SAT I: 2370
SAT II: Math II (800) Bio (800) Chem (800) World History (780) US History (770)
AP: Chem (5) Bio (5) Stats (5) Psyc (5) Physics B (5)
APs for next year: English Language; Calculas BC

Extra Curricular:

Clubs: Med Corps (President); Red Cross; Medical Explorers Club (Secretary)(This is a club at a local hospital)

Sports: Two years of Varsity Basketball and two years of Varsity Track and Field

I also wrote poems and I've had 8 poems published in various books

I have also won many poetry contests

I've volunteered at Washington Hospital (a local hospital) and I shadowed a cardiologist for an entire summer.

This summer I got accepted for summer research program in UPENN (I'm the only one in this program; I'll be working along side with UPENN professors and graduates)

Last year I went to india twice for two weeks at a time, and there I donated, conducted research, and helped build pipes for running water in a poor village. I also shared culture differences and academic differences with the people and children there. I also refined the school and its education system in way to maximize education for the children there. I have many proofs of me conducting this operation.

Also my friend and I have invented a device that can possibly stop drunk people from driving when they are drunk. We have talked with many automobile companies and we are planning to talk with a government official through these automobile companies to make this device legal and possibly to place it in every vehicle that is made in order to prevent accidents from happening by cause of drunk driving.

I think I have pretty good stats except for my GPA, but my counselor says that my trip to India and the device that I invented will assure me in some pretty top schools. But I'm not too sure because on every website that I look, they are asking for a 4.0. So please tell me my chances as well as how to make my application standout from the others. Thank you.

I am interested in your posts because of your bio. Your ECs are tremendous: inventor, relief missions to India etc.
But there are errors and factual inconsistencies.
In this post as Rushingvanilla you wrote:

But there are multiple postings by Rushervanilla with similar stats. Two excerpts:
“I’m a sophomore at MSJHS. My stats so far:

“Residencies for UMKC:
Can you guys tell me if I will get into a prestigious/ competitive residency if I graduate from the UMKC 6 year Accelerated Med Program!!!”

The OP is obviously the same person, although there is a very slight variation in the screen name, so that the posts will not be linked.
Similarities: Washington Hospital volunteer, U Penn Summer Biomed Program, Varsity 2 yrs in Basketball and Track & Field.
Slight variations: SAT I 2360 vs. 2370, UW GPA 3.64 vs. 3.67.
Sophomore vs. Junior
Omissions: Poetry, invention and India relief trips

My take is that you are a very bright individual who is determined and has clear goals. Believe me, these go a long way. You are also well rounded, athletic and charitable. We need more doctors like you. You only mentioned the trips to India and the invention under one of the screen names. The invention, if real and comes to fruition, makes you stand out and you should stress that. But any discrepancy in your application can put the veracity of your entire application in jeopardy. Adcoms can sense that.
Sorry to be blunt, but your posts are perplexing. Our goal here is to help. No doubt you will have a bright future.

And please be specific when talking about your EC’s. No one wants to hear about how you revolutionized India’s school system or will stop drunk driving. We want to know what you actually did. To me, essentially, you have a 4 week trip to India and a vague “invention” or maybe just an idea.
